Came here after a snowy day. The trees were bare and the floor was covered in snow. Very beautiful. It's not a lengthy walk up to the top. Definitely worth the short walk up. Gives a nice view of the monument and the surrounding parks.

Bastion Hill is located in a beautifully landscaped park. The steps are tricky because some are deteriorating so you have to be careful walking up and down the hill - one side is in better shape than the other. At the top there are benches that were done as an art project which are nice to sit on and enjoy... More

There are a few ruins, that's about it. The park around and the stream are more interesting. Perhaps the best is the view towards the monument.

Went to the park and placed flowers on the memorial stones to the victims of the 1991 Soviet military harassment of Riga. Leafy and peaceful in a surrounding sea of busy-ness. Hill is anticlimactic, but has good views of the Freedom Monument.

Go up there. It is not steep. It will reward you with a nice view over the park and the Powder tower and adjacent barracks. The fountains shall be nice, I will check this later on when they are operating.

A varied terrain, somewhat hilly, with the Riga Kanal flowing in the middle, offers many activities. The park is flanked by the National Opera on the east, by majestic buildings on the south and the north, and in the middle is the symbolic statue of Liberty - a less attractive huge monument, very dear to the Latvians. Also in the... More

One nice thing about Riga is the amount of parks it provides. Although this one is relatively immersed in the crowded section, it yet provides a moment of pause. It is located not so far from the eastern end of Vansu bridge.

The park is small but full of pretty statues and a very pretty bridge covered in 'love locks'. The climb to the top of the hill is short and not very steep. There are some nice views of the city from the top and a plenty of seats to rest for a while and take in the surroundings.

my city... Bastejkalns or Bastion Hill in English is a nice and quiet park in the very center of Riga. It was formed in the 19th century after tearing down city bulwarks. On the one side of Bastejkalns you will find the Liberty monument, while on the other – Blaumanis sculpture. Dividing the Old Town from the Central District with... More
