Anyone interested in learning about natural history, environmental issues regarding Latvia and the world will enjoy this museum. Especially the interactive activities.

Nice building, atmosphere. A lot of interesting exhibits. Really enjoyed it. The only drawback is that everything is in latvian and just small part in english. But definitely worth visiting. P. S. A lot of children.

I visited for free during the festive period. They had good cloak room facilities and the museum was well laid out.
Each room had a card with an explanation in English which was good but other than the taxidermy animal labels nothing else was in English. My first thought was that the taxidermy was excellent. If you're going to display dead animals I think it's important to treat them with respect. They were all presented really well, they looked natural and 'alive'. Full marks to whoever did them.
The top floor had a collection of human body parts, skulls, organs, foetuses. Some may find it a bit grim but it was very interesting.
I was impressed with the amount of activities for children available. Lots of interactive things to do and draw.
A great way to spend a couple of hours.

Very good if you have kids who can’t read and just want to look at animals, but not very informative for non-Latvian speakers! Very cheap, around 3 euros for a family ticket with 2 children

The museum is a mix of older and more modern ways of interactivity and displays of ethnographic, entomological and geographical Latvian/European nature history. All in all well worth the cheap entry fee (2 euro for adults, 1 for minors).
The information in English is very minimal though. So if you do not know Latvia or Russian, just enjoy the museum visually.
We took one hour to explore. It sure is bigger inside then it looks from outside.

A nice place, but mainly for children. Also: most of the signs and explanations are either in Latvian or in Russian. Very little English...

This museum is one of those places where you come back again and again. It's never boring there. 5 floors of history about nature, flora, fauna, humans and you also could be lucky to come on the day where additional exhibitions are organized. We came on the day where exhibition of different lilies was taking place. You have to pay additional fee for short term exibitions but it's v small and affordable. Anyway if you wish to visit only permanent exibitions- you will enjoy it over 5 floors. Great fun for kids and adults alike.

Visited this museum with family and thoroughly enjoyed it. Different floors with different exhibits, very large exhibit on taxidermy so if you don't like looking at stuffed animals don't go!! Kids loved it, lots of interactive things to do for the children on each floor, good way to spend an hour or two if weather isn't good outside or just have a general interest in museums, only downfall is all written displays, labels and information is in Russian and Latvian, not much English if any at all, but would definitely still take a look and visit xx

Easy to find, a five minutes walk from the old town. Very cheap tickets, less thatn a euro for school kids. Lots of stairs, as the exhibitions are on five floors. Our 8-9 years old kids easily spent almost two hours watching the development of primates, stuffed birds and mammals and some fossils. No store, no cafe, but decent cloakroom and toilets.

There's pretty much to do with children. We were there with 5 and 9 year olds and spent many hours. Unfortunately most of the text is in Latvian, but even then there's much to see and do. Quite many interactive things. Kids liked it.
