Combine with ghetto and food market
Amazing views across Riga. Lift to 15th floor, then 2 sets of stairs. Great to see all the places we'd visited in geographical context. Some information displays, but basic. You go for the view - which is worth it!

Great view...will be wild and windy!
6 euros gets you to the 15th floor by lift, and stairs to deck on 17th floor. Great view of the market hangars, the old town, the river and the surrounding areas. The Academy of Sciences building is easy to spot, close to the central market, but construction work at the station as part of the Rail Baltica project means you might find it a little awkward to get to. Use the tunnel next to the railway station, and visit the central markets whilst in the area, as well as the Jewish Ghetto (you can see an isolated railway truck from the panoramic deck, looking towards the river)

    Eyewateringly beautiful architectural treasures
Safe, clean, chilled and above all beautiful. If you like architecture in an array of styles then you should pay a vusit. You can walk everywhere, hop on and off the retro and new trams and see everything worth seeing. Parks, trees flowers are never far apart. Nothing costs very much...one if the more readonable places in Europe by far. Young people speak good english. Weather was perfect the 4 days i was there. Transport is easy, took a traun to the beach. Amazing, unique, unspoilt place.

Great views over the surrounding area !
Well worth the 8€ cost as the views over the city are amazing and you can see for miles. Getting the tickets involves a self service terminal if you pay by bank card otherwise you can pay for your ticket with cash at the desk as you enter the building. The lift takes you to floor 15 and from there it's 2 flights up to 17th for the amazing views. Plus there is a toilet up there too if you need to use it ! It was not at all busy so it was easy to get some super snaps of Riga and the surrounding area. Signage is very good and it tells you a little of the history of the buildings you can see from each side. The view is so much better than the one from St. Peter's in the old town.

Nice location for an overview of Riga as long as it is a sunny day. We visited in September on a rainy evening and saw next to nothing. The interior of the building takes you back to the Soviet era. At 6 euros per person it is definitely worth a visit as long as it is not raining. Remember to bring cash as they don't accept credit cards.

One of the most famous viewpoints in Riga is located on the seventeenth floor of the Academy of Sciences, with a view from sixty-five meters above the Latvian capital. The building itself was built between 1951 and 1961 during the Soviet occupation. Tickets (prices vary, but in general are quite cheap) can be purchased directly at the entrance. Entrance is free for children under twelve years of age. The platform is very spacious and allows many people to access it at the same time. Therefore, there is never a long queue at the ticket office.

Great experience and worth visiting to see a panoramic view of the city. Took lift to 15th floor and there were then 2 flights of stairs to climb to the 17th floor. Great views across city and there were a few sign providing info on surrounding attractions/ buildings.
Useful info: cost is 6 euros. There was a toilet available on the 17th floor.

I heard there is an observation deck overlooking the city of Riga, so I went there. The exterior, built during the Soviet era, is quite intimidating, but once inside it is dimly lit and has a gloomy feel typical of the former communist bloc. I paid 6 euros in cash to get on the elevator, but after getting off I had to walk down a dimly lit corridor and stairs before finally arriving at the observation deck. The view was great, and if the weather was good I could see quite far into the distance. There is no Japanese explanation, but there is an English explanation.
It was a spot that really retained the atmosphere of the former communist bloc, and it was quite a unique experience.

Wherever I travel I try to go to some panoramic view to take pictures from above. In Riga there are some options: this Panorama of the Academy of Sciences, St Peter Church or Skybar. I chose the Academy of Sciences, ticket costed 5 euro. The building is not so far from the Old Town and is located very close to the train station so directly after it I took a train to Jurmala. It was so windy, no joke, I was afraid my phone was going to fly out of my hand. Luckily you can protect yourself inside in the area where the toilet is. Managed to take some nice photos and quickly ran away. Sky was really beautiful but the wind is crazy.

It’s the dirtiest building in view. We had to fight our way through endless roadworks to get here. All the doors were shut and it looked closed. Someone else tried one of the doors that had a Latvian sign that possibly said “no entry” and it opened. We followed.

Inside was dim and grim. It’s a science centre but it looked like it had never heard of electricity. The entrance fee seemed cheap but then we found out it was “cash only” - the only time in 6 days this had happened to us. We declined and I made my feelings known.

We went up St Peter’s spire in the old town instead. Cleaner, friendlier, a better view, and - ironically - card payment only 🤣

For €3 this is a bargain! You can see all the way across Riga on a clear day and it’s a very quiet attraction so you have a lot of space. Seems to be little known, and maybe lacks some of the informative pieces which you would expect to see in a more tourist area but it’s so cheap that it’s definitely worth a stop, especially if you are going/coming from the Ghetto & Holocaust museum (5/10 min walk)

Amazing views over Riga and a bargain for €6. The lift takes you to floor 15 and you have to walk to floor 17. It’s very high up! There are information boards telling you about the different landmarks which was helpful (in many languages). It was interesting to just be inside such a huge Soviet building! Staff are very friendly.
