    Great frame for great art
We attended the premiere of Jenufa in this classic, majestic building and it was a memorable experience. The opera itself was grand, well-performed and with Creative and innovative scenografy - all of which were underscored by the elegant building and excellent acoustics. Efficient and free wardrobe at each of the three levels, polite bar service and reasonably priced tickets. Also from the outside this theater is a joy for the eye and beautifully located in the park along the old Riga mote.

    Enjoyable Swan Lake
We have visited many times at this historic Opera House originally built in 1863. Riga is so easily accessed from Helsinki and the ticket prices are just 1/3 of the prices of the Helsinki National Opera. The stunning Great Hall seats 952 people. We have always booked Dress Circle seats which have quite often felt cramped. This time we opted for the 1st balcony. The 1st-row seats in the central part had excellent visibility and good legroom. The staging and the performance were stunning.

    A wonderful production
We watched the opera Aida and were very satisfied. The production is just wonderful. Colorful and stylish decorations and costumes, gorgeous voices. If I visited Riga more often, I would definitely go to all the performances. The next time I come to Riga, I will definitely go to the Opera again.

    Grand, Classical Style
The Opera building can be found at the side of the Pilsetas Canal and not far from the Freedom Monument. It has a grand, classical style with several halls, the largest of which seats nearly 1000 people. It dates from 1863. Both opera and ballet are performed here. Very impressive indeed!

Just came back from a few days in Riga which we loved.
Had tickets for Romeo and Juliet on our second night.
The building was lovely and the inside stunting in places.
We only stayed for the 1st half as the performance did not work us which was a shame.
This should not put anyone off from making a visit when in Riga.
You can buy tickets from there website before you travel at very cheap prices.

We managed to buy two of the last three tickets (presumably returned tickets) and were sitting virtually at the front, very close to the stage. The sound, however, was just wonderful and the programme was superb. In addition, the quality of the performers was right up there! It was a wonderful evening in a wonderful building in Riga.

I have had the pleasure to enjoy two operas in less than I week. A splendidly sung and played Don Pasquale and a lovely Don Giovanni. It's incredible that in a town where you pay 3.50 euros for a beer you can live such a luxury experience with seat starting at 7.50 euro! Sound, orchestra, direction, staff ..everything was top quality.
Super easy booking via the direct website it's definitely a plus (no extra fee for online booking) . I can't wait to be back.
Small critique...DUST... from balcony to stall, the level of dust is high careful if you have allergies.

Went last night to Verde's Trovatore in the June season. Gorgeous theatre and a charming space. Incredibly cheap tickets in comparison to UK. Worth going for the experience even if opera is not your thing.

The exterior of the opera house is very pretty but the interior is absolutely stunning. It is plush, rich and ornate. I saw the production of Peer Gynt which was beautifully orchestrated. The dancers and musicians were world class. And the price for the tickets can't be beat. I would return to Riga simply to see more productions here!

We visited the Latvian National Opera in Riga to see their production of probably the first opera I'd ever heard of as a child - Mozart's Marriage of Figaro - but with a twist! Stunning opera house, great seats as it was the first thing we booked when we planned this trip six months ago - front row of a central box (crazy money - what were we thinking - €30 each!) However worth every penny - very comfortable seats, a talented orchestra, excellent singers and all done as if it were set in the 1970s! Think Studio 54 type costuming, think Love Boat type tropical shirts on the 'band' at the wedding scene. Fascinating to be listening to the classical music and song and watching the groovy production. And (AND!) though sung in Italian, it was sur-titled in English as well as Latvian - which was a huge, huge bonus... normally we read up the story on wiki prior so we can follow along if we are going to an opera in a non-English speaking country. This is definitely a must do when visiting Riga, attend a performance you won't be disappointed.
