Watched a modern version of Bolero at the National Opera House and it was amazing. The building is stunning and the performance lived up to expectations. I was a bit wary of the dress code, as stipulated on the Opera House's website, so wore a suit without a tie. Although most of the audience were smartly dressed, there were plenty... More

Just been treated to superb performance of Madam Butterfly.... magnificent ! Many National Operas are stuffy formal places. Whilst RNO is very classical building the atmosphere is very relaxed and nobody looks down their nose at you if you are wearing T shirt and jeans ! Tickets very realistically priced, facilities good would highly recommend !!

This opera house has a beautiful garden, so you can take a rest here before you walk around the park.

Saw the "Bolero Ballet" there. Orchestra was mediocre to good , the dancers seemed very young and lacked maturity and confidence. As it was mid August when everyone is on vacation , maybe we were seeing the youth troop , the coming generation of dancers. The soloists were good and professional. The problem was the seats. Third or fourth tier,... More

In contrast to rather modest appearance of this theater building, the inside is another world with decorative style. If performance (either opera or ballet) runs during your stay in Riga, worthy to attend it. Tickets are affordable and available on-line too.

When in Riga, try to visit one of their ballet or opera performances. The building is not that old (1923), but it is built and decorated to resemble a much older era. Inside it really feels and looks like the 19th century. You can also just take the tour. However, you would deprive yourself of a unique change to see... More

The opera house offers tours at 2pm, in English on Fridays. It's a pre-revolutioary restoration of the original built when Riga was the fifth largest city in Tzarist Russia and a cultural center. Worth a visit. Incidentally, performace prices start at under $10, even less for seniors (and, as a result, are frequently sold out)

I've been to the National opera yesterday evening. The building is very nice to look at and the atmosphere at night is great. I saw the “Swan lake“ (possibly the best known ballet) and would highly recommend it. Even though I often visited the opera in Vienna, it was my first time to see a ballet. I immediately became a... This building is located close to the canals, and it's just beautiful. The location is lovely, the building itself is impressive, and I'd recommend a stop in, even if you can't stay for an opera.
