- ViaggioevoloItaly6,614 contributionsA return to the early 1900s.Walking through Elizabete iela and Alberta iela, the symbolic streets and where there is the greatest contraction of Art Nouveau in Riga, you will find this beautiful museum. You enter the building and immediately notice the staircase which, due to its beauty, is the most photographed attraction of the museum. The apartment where the museum is located was owned by the well-known architect Peksens. Inside it, the various rooms of a typical house from the early 1900s have been reconstructed: the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen with everything needed for cooking, the wardrobe... In the museum there are also actors with the typical period clothing and it is possible to wear the typical clothes and hats made available to visitors and take photos.Visited August 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 20, 2024
- RlfDinkyRoubaix, France5,794 contributionsIn search of lost time... nostalgiaA museum which allows you to find interior furniture from the art nouveau era. Even though the apartments suffered dark times during the Second World War and the Soviet occupation, the Latvian government was able to redecorate this house with a kitchen, a dining room, a smoking room, bedrooms and their storage rooms. Being almost 70 years old, I found objects from my grandmother's house such as irons, the stove, oil lamps, the phonograph, etc. So quite moving to find objects from his childhood… a bit like Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time”.Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten February 25, 2024
- EloyfrBuenos Aires, Argentina1,381 contributionsMuseum for lovers and not so much of Art NouveauEven if you are not a fan of the style (as is my case) I consider it worth a visit. Everything, from the staff that assists you to one dressed as in that time to the reproduction and conservation of interiors and various objects is interesting. The stairs at the entrance are already worth the look around here. It is located in the Art Nouveau area of the city.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2024
- momtyallgaeuIsny im Allgaeu, Germany2,102 contributionsdefinitely worth seeingTwo floors can be visited, the ground floor of which is in its original state, as it was inhabited by the architect Pekshens. There are some interesting presentations, also in German. Overall, a beautiful and worth seeing example of typical Art Nouveau architecture.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 4, 2024
- Traveler17603Lancaster, Pennsylvania73 contributionsDo not depart Riga until you visit here!If you are in Riga then this is a MUST VISIT. You cannot understand the outside of the buildings without seeing the insides. Take your time to explore each room. Additionally and separately, we visited the top floor to see the artist museum. That also adds to the understanding of the living in these homes at this time of history. You need to climb the spiral staircase and admire the painting all the way to the top. The views from the windows are spectacular. Both museums are a must do in this building and you cannot depart Riga until you come here!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 20, 2024
- galadiel67Chiavari, Italy3,740 contributionsOne of the finest examples of art nouveau in EuropeI only review the palace, since we did not have time to see the museum, which I will definitely visit if I return to Riga. We arrived at the building at the end of an art nouveau tour of the capital organized by the Free Guided Tour association (fantastic). The building is located in Alberta iela 12 and was built in 1903 as the home of the famous Latvian architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns who designed it together with Eižens Laube. The spiral staircase is one of the most important masterpieces of art nouveau in Europe, as are the ceilings.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 26, 2024
- jbg74Saint Paul, Minnesota1,195 contributionsIncredible MuseumThe museum is an apartment in a beautiful Art Nouveau building. All of the rooms in the apartment are filled with Art Nouveau objects. This is a must-see museum in Riga. It is also in the center of many of the best Art Nouveau buildings in Riga so after checking out the musuem (and the apartment staircase), take a walk around the area too.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 2, 2024
- jx7Mainz, Germany216 contributionsThe small Art Nouveau museum is worthwhile, the whole neighborhood has great houses. The small Art Nouveau museum is located in a boulevard, one house more beautiful than the other. The staircase alone is incredible! A complete Art Nouveau apartment in its original condition is shown. You can take photos of yourself in different "costumes" (coats, hats) for a small amount of money, print them out or have them sent by mail.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 7, 2024

We entered and walked up the steep beautiful staircase to the top , which is actually an artists old apartment. We paid and had a look round and then went back down to the museum . It’s quite interesting really and showed the way people were living around that time . Well worth an hour …Visited November 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 19, 2024
- Eszter T58 contributionsBeautiful experienceEven when you enter the same street, you are struck by all the fantastic buildings in Art Nouveau style. Once inside you are met by the incredibly beautiful stairwell. The employees were nice and it was also fun that they were dressed in contemporary garments. The exhibition itself was well planned with a review of each room, its features and interesting details before walking around the apartment itself.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 20, 2024

If you are looking it is right opposite the “Art Nouveau” souvenir shop on the first floor and you have to ring the bell to enter the building then push the door with the few stairs
Do not confuse it with the “Rozenthal” apartment on the top floor which can also be visited but has no connection with this museum.
This museum opens at 10:00 and is worth it even if it is not memorial and the pieces of furniture are brought. The apartment is very pretty and ladies dressed in period clothing give you explanations (especially the charming and adorable one who is in the kitchen). The basement is rich in digital documentation that allows you to repeat and visualize the works of Art Nouveau in the city and their architects.
Explanations at the entrance to be retrieved in different languages.

Unfortunately we spent only 4,5 days in this fantastic city.
Of course it deserves much more than that. We arrived by bus from another beautiful destination - Tallinn and walked to our Neighbors Hotel where we had a booked studio ( entry room, kitchen, bathroom with a bath and the room itself that had windows looking at the Dome cathedral on one side, gorgeous buildings on the other side and historic museum on the third side. Royal treatment, delicious breakfast, great service and million of other things.
But the most important thing was that the building itself was Art Nouveau treasure.
Even though our room had huge, comfortable bed we only slept a few hours a day. You just can't have enough of this incredible city.
Anywhere where you look, you'll see something pretty, interesting, something you won't see anywhere else.
Food is another thing that has to be mentioned. WOW, WOW and WOW . That's my reaction.
Of course we went to as many concerts as we could, of course we visited most of their museums.
When you visit National Gallery , you'll see artists you had never heard before however their art will shake your world. I promise.
All Riga's museums are very interesting and you can read about them right in TA. The one museum we didn't read about here was a small museum that is located on the street right behind the Black Heads Building. The Information Office is right near Black Heads.
So the museum I am talking about is a costume museum. I don't want to spoil a surprise and tell you everything about this museum but do yourself a favor and visit it. God, that was an unforgettable experience.
I am pretty sure Riga will be "discovered" in a year or two and will turn into another gorgeous but crowded city. Go now, enjoy, eat, drink, swim in pleasure.
Such a fest for one's eyes, ears, all senses.

Only visited Riga because of its art nouveau so of course this place was a must visit. Only paid 2 euro entry (on an Wednesday in April, your fee may vary) including photo permission, so that is a bargain. Nicely recreated apartment, descriptions of the rooms are available on cards in several languages as you enter them. the interactive exhibition was a bit hit & miss though in my opinion. WC facilities are available.

The art nouveau pass is an utter waste of time. Do not buy it.
You buy it on line, perhaps on your phone, make a booking for the relevant house but then have to go to a central location in the city to ‘redeem’ your voucher. If you are only going to two or three houses it’s cheaper and FAR easier just to pay at the door! I certainly wish I had not bought it.
The buildings obviously are remarkable and overwhelmingly worth visiting.

This museum is well curated and there is a routine of what to see first and second, the staff (who know English) was helpful in guiding us! Interesting to see the displays and walk through the replicated house from the early 1900s. Also walk around the neighborhood outside because there are so many art nouveau buildings to admire!

This is an extremely interesting and informative museum with friendly and helpful staff. Well presented and laid out which gives you a good understanding of what life was like during this period of history. We learned a lot from our visit and would highly recommend it to visitors to this beautiful city which is well represented in Art Nouveau architecture.

Rather than a museum, it is appropriate to talk about the reconstruction of a house interior with period objects. Not unpleasant but it remains of very limited interest. A real educational approach is lacking in order to identify the true artistic richness of this Art Nouveau period.

If you've been enjoying the gorgeous Art Nouveau buildings all over central Riga, and especially on Alberta iela, you are highly likely to love this museum! Go in at least for the glorious shared central staircase (free to view), but the apartment too is a beautiful joy to explore and well worth the entrance fee. A series of rooms are decorated in opulent style with lots of details to love, and costumed guides are around to answer questions. In the basement there are a few interactive exhibits & some bonnets etc to try on. Highly recommended, it's a treat to take a peak inside such a beautiful building.

Interesting museum contained in a meticulously furnished and decorated Art Nouveau apartment. You get to see not only the 'front of house' stuff like the reception rooms and bedrooms but can view the bathroom, wc (made in England!) the kitchen and the maid's room so it is all brought to life.
The basement has an interesting exhibition on the imagined family that might have lived there. It was clever to stand in front of mirrors but to watch live action reflections of each family member checking their appearance before maybe going out or receiving guests.
There were also numerous period decorative items and pieces of furniture on display Small Art Nouveau light fittings hanging from the ceiling of one of the rooms was an interesting display.
The museum staff were dressed in period costume and you could try on certain articles of clothing too.
The entrance and building staircase were also very impressive to see.

This is a lovely little museum about typical art nouveau home decorations in the early 1900s. While this is a nice museum, it's not really worth going out of your way to go in. The surrounding neighborhood, however, has quite a few art nouveau style buildings that are very beautiful.
