This is a very huge white statue located at Town Hall in front of the house of Blackheads. Beautiful white statue with sword drawn. For me it's just another statue but for the people of Riga it has historical significance where its told Roland was man of justice in Germany.
Not difficult to miss if you are at the Town Hall.

The stone statue of a knight with sword and shield is positioned in the centre of Town Hall Square. Roland was a military leader under the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne. The original statue was erected in the 19th century but was damaged by bombing in 1941 and is now in St Peter’s Church. The current Roland statue is a replica erected in 2000.

This statue definitely sticks out in the heart of a small square that already shines, especially at night.

As with other structures in this square the statue that is in the square is a copy. The original statue was damaged in the Second World War and now stands in the church, which you have to pay to go in. This seems to be a pity for such an important symbol of freedom.

Roland Statue stands in the middle of the Town Hall Square next to the House of Blackheads.

Roland was the nephew of Charlemagne and a Frankish military leader. He died at the Battle of Roncevaux in 778.

This statue is a copy. It was unveiled in May 2000. It replaced the 1897 statue, which is now protected inside the nearby St. Peter's church.

Several towns across the Baltic Sea region have Roland statues. It is a sign of bourgeois freedom and an expression of the economic prosperity of the city.

Roland, famous military leader under Charlemagne, became a symbol of the independence of the cities from the nobility. The original statue was pulled down by the Soviets, perhaps realizing its symbolic significance, and is now housed in St Peter's church.

This is a lovely and imposing statue, located in the town hall square.
It provides a fantastic photo-op with the house of Black heads behind it.

This is situated in front of the House of Blackheads and is a 1999 reproduction of the 1897 original which was damaged in 1941. The original can be found in St Peter's church.

I don’t know who Roland is but he has a big statue in a nice location. The backdrop for pictures is nice and people flock to the statue.

This statue is prominently located infront of the House of the Blackheads. There were some people seated around it. Wanting to take some pictures of the statue only, I had to wait for them to move on.
