This museum is good to combine with Ragakāpa Nature Park. We arrived by train and had a 1hour walk to the museum. It's free entrance. The museum took us nearly 1 hour. There are many pictures of nets for catching different fish types. And there was interesting musical instrument that is similar to pot but made meditative sounds. Nice place to see how fishermen lived.

We rent a bikes from Jurmala and ride about 10 km to the open air museum place. Museum has a good samples of buildings and even two ships. The admission is free, and you can just walk around and look at the buildings windows and doors. Great place to visit and see Latvians history.

if you are biking around the Ragakapa area, make a stop here. gives a feel for fisherfolk's lives in the old days. kids also love the musical instrument made from an old propane tank and the unusual big swing.

The amazing thing is that it's open, for free, like many museums in this area. But it's not a very big museum, and not very well organized. (Looks like some construction is in progress though.) Then we found out that on Thursdays they have some craft demonstrations, and fish smoking. And the sign says it can be arranged on other days for larger tour groups. So I guess we went on the wrong day.

and I hope that museum will be open on 15th of February 2020 when we were in Riga again :) Never expect how interesting and ancient is a process of fishing!
I wish to the owner to promote their museum by any kind of actions.

Its not that easy to find but we did and really enjoyed ourselves. Take the tain to Lielupe and then bus number 1 and then walk from the village through the woods - a further walk will get you to the beach

The lady that works there is very rude. Would not recommend visiting this place with small children. She literally scared them.

My friend took me to the open museum. It was very quiet and nicely surrounded by nature! I hardly imagine how fisherman at that time have survived such a simple wood house and ship in severe cold climate.

Authentic recreation of the the traditional fishing history of the area, with many interesting artefacts from that time and a lot of information in the old fisherman houses about how things were. A lovely location and easy to while away an hour or so looking at the displays and reading the information provided. I learnt a lot about the local varieties of fish!
