We were lucky to stay in the old city for our 10 day visit to Tartu. Quite, beautiful old buildings, and CLEAN. I think Tartu must be the cleanest city I've every seen. Also - safe. These are industrious, honest, kind, proud people who love to share their city off to visitors. We were lucky to be there on the... More

Quaint attractive university town and a great base to visit the southern parts of estonia. Lots of good bars and small hotels

Calm and peacful. Nice architecture, beautiful pastel colours, old lanterns, cute rock sculptures. And it's very informative, you can find everything very easily.

The City is all about the University and it's Students. You can have a great walk in the amazing parks of the city and the picturesque centre. As the story goes there is a legend, that if you kiss your girl at either a bridge, a high point on the central park or close to the statue, you will soon... More

Plenty of eccentricity - odd sculptures - worth giving time to explore. There is much that is modern too

Not sure how people decide to call a place city or town, this city definitely makes the confusion deeper! But all in all cute and clean city with interesting geography (hills, river, ..) Despite being a student city, many are fashion and style conscious. Has a distinct rustic feel/style that I didn't see in other cities in Estonia. Despite being... More

Tartu is an historical students and science city in Estonia. Hipster's paradise for studing and hanging around.

Tartu is not such a touristic city, rather a university place, filled with young people. However, the old town is charming, and invites you for a walk.

Small Old Town with narrow pedestrian streets with the Town Hall, Market Place, Fountain, Leaning House and other attractions used to be once the medieval centre of this university city. The Great Fire in the 18th century destroyed almost all of it and what you can see today is a neoclassical replacement - still beautiful.

Being the first time in Tartu was an exciting experience for me. I had read about Estonia's contribution to University studies in Europe since the medieval times and found the city enchanting with its University buildings and just bordering it the underground magazine during the Soviet occupation, which was restored and taken to use as a bier cellar with just...
