Pretty but Touristy

Very pretty to walk around and explore but there are quieter less touristy places in the old town that are worth visiting.

It was under construction when I visited it, in September. The towers are still there, so you can, at least, see something.

This is the place where the Old Tallinn and the Neww Tallinn meet. It is very interesting to observe both. Most likely it is going to be on your way to Old Town. Worth of spending some time here.

Just outside the Viru Gates is this smaller square. If you turn left you will go through the flower market and through the gates to the old walled city. Here you will see medieval stone buildings packed with shops and cafes. If you turn right you will go to Viru Keskus, a large modern shopping mall. Construction in this area... More

Viru Square (Viru Väljak) is located outside Viru Gates and marks the place where the Old Town and the new town meet each other. It is thus a place of contrasts: the Viru Gates on one side and the modern buildings such as Viru Keskus on the other side. Viru Keskus is one of Tallinn's biggest shopping malls. On the... More

It's actually the entrance to the Old Town. There are lots of flower shops & also a famous mall (not able to recall its name) nearby. The beautiful flowers will freshen you up & it's perfect for a selfie / pic. Right behind the Gates, McDonalds is also there & the main market of the Old Town also starts. So... More

Viru Square is at the end of Viru Street leaving Old Town. It is surrounded by red roof buildings—particularly the turret towers of Viru Gates—and near KGB Museum. The entire street/square is under reconstruction, especially repaving the street/square with cobblestones, a labor-intensive effort that will restore the medieval feel of the section of Old Town. Many of the kiosks/stalls were... More

I coud not tell that it is a square more of an entrance, but there is a lot to see and do. The flower market on the one side has the most beautiful flowers for sale. There are many shops and eating places. A small market is just off to the one side. They are busy restoring the road and... More

The bustling entrance to old town. Lots of places to buy flowers and kiosks to buy cigarettes. Plenty of eateries to have a snack at too. There is a Hess burger here, the Baltic Burger chain impresses every time. A very busy area of foot and some car traffic.
