Viru gates create an entrance to the old town. They are beautiful and picturesque but Tallinn has so much more beautiful to offer that I didn't find them too interesting and didn't spend too much time exploring them.
Walking around town on a very wet day we took shelter near the gates.
Colourful spot with all the flowers and on the other side lots of little stalls set up selling all sorts of goods.

This is a beautiful entry to the old town. There's a lovely park to the side overlooking the gates and also a gorgeous flower market at street level.
The hop on hop off bus starts it's route just outside here as well.
