We are a couple in our early 40s and have travelled extensively for work and pleasure.
IN SUMMARY:
Very good private tour. Over a nicely paced 3-hours, the very pleasant guide provided a great all round and most enjoyable education about the Estonian culinary scene, an overview of the Tallinn Vanalinn (old town), and discussions about Estonia in general. Good value, highly recommended.
My wife and I met Nicolai for what would become a most pleasant stroll through Vanalinn’s oldest and newer cafes, delis, restaurants, and places of interest. Most things we were more than likely never to have experienced, but we are familiar now and pretty much loved them!:
- Schnapps (Juniper??)
- Traditional Soups
- Traditional rye leib (bread)
- Kali
- Beet hummus (really?... yes and good!)
- Very pure vodka (we think!?)
- Truffles
- Chocolates
- Kama
- Sprats and wild mushroom in a contemporary smorgasbord presentation
- Rhubard wine
All tasty, interesting and with story to tell :) All of this made for a fantastic way to appreciate Tallinn in a creative and “real” way where you see places where residents lived traditionally and what they are now enjoying. We also really enjoyed the little surprise gifts along the way. Really nice touch.
Nicolai was really a pleasure as a guide, host and conversationalist. He was laid back, while peaking our interest with facts and anecdotes. He was easy to speak with regarding any questions we had, and certainly represented Estonia well and gave us a well-rounded appreciation and respect for the under-the-radar, but most impressive Estonian people and culture.
Many thanks, Nicolai!
Happy trails!!!
