About
Estonian history is full of crossing with other cultures which all have left their traces to our country, culture, and cuisine - making it an interesting blend of East and West with strong Nordic roots. A Nordic country with a twist... Food Sightseeing Estonia is providing food tours in Tallinn and also elsewhere in Estonia. Our food tours combine classical sightseeing with various typical for Estonia and for the region food & drink stops en route. We offer 3 types of tours: a) scheduled daily food tours during high-season (on Fridays-Saturdays during low-season), b) private food tours operating year round based on requests, c) tailor made activities (incentive programs for pre-, post-conference and spouse tours, tailor made programs for corporations, and FAM trips). Our food tours combine two great things that'll make every trip unique - you'll have a chance to discover the real soul of the city with the locals, and get to feel, taste and know Estonia through its kitchen.

" Romantic North Coast" of 6 hours: it was a trip which included the visit to Lahemaa National Reservoir with a multitude of bogs, the visit to the small fishermen village, with picknick prepared and selected by Paul with so many details and love and very tasty products (all included in the price!). We also visited the biggest manor in that area, Vihula. Me and my friend from Spain/Cuba we were looking to a special trip to this area and we had luck to get a private tour by Paul (it was during the week). I would highly recommend it who wants to get an authentical visit outside of Tallinn!

A really great walking tour of Tallinn centered around food. Show up hungry because you are going to be fed a lot of really good food. Our guide did a great job of tying in the culture with the tour. All in all a great way to see And experience Tallinn.

We are a couple in our early 40s and have travelled extensively for work and pleasure.

IN SUMMARY:
Very good private tour. Over a nicely paced 3-hours, the very pleasant guide provided a great all round and most enjoyable education about the Estonian culinary scene, an overview of the Tallinn Vanalinn (old town), and discussions about Estonia in general. Good value, highly recommended.

My wife and I met Nicolai for what would become a most pleasant stroll through Vanalinn’s oldest and newer cafes, delis, restaurants, and places of interest. Most things we were more than likely never to have experienced, but we are familiar now and pretty much loved them!:

- Schnapps (Juniper??)
- Traditional Soups
- Traditional rye leib (bread)
- Kali
- Beet hummus (really?... yes and good!)
- Very pure vodka (we think!?)
- Truffles
- Chocolates
- Kama
- Sprats and wild mushroom in a contemporary smorgasbord presentation
- Rhubard wine

All tasty, interesting and with story to tell :) All of this made for a fantastic way to appreciate Tallinn in a creative and “real” way where you see places where residents lived traditionally and what they are now enjoying. We also really enjoyed the little surprise gifts along the way. Really nice touch.

Nicolai was really a pleasure as a guide, host and conversationalist. He was laid back, while peaking our interest with facts and anecdotes. He was easy to speak with regarding any questions we had, and certainly represented Estonia well and gave us a well-rounded appreciation and respect for the under-the-radar, but most impressive Estonian people and culture.

Many thanks, Nicolai!

Happy trails!!!

Took this tour on our one day stop in Talinn. The meet up spot was easy to find and our tour guide right on time. Our group consisted of three others who were visiting, but not on cruise ships.

Started at The Peppersack, a delightful old historic merchants house. This was the one formal sit down food stop. They served a delicious traditional pumpkin soup, but with a contemporary flair of seeds and watercress as garnish. Along side a shot of schnapps to start the day. Our host took this time to share with us a thorough introduction to Talinn.

We proceeded to tour the town, stopping off in a local shop that had a multitude of tastings. The shop was crowded with other tourists, but we all had an easy time taking a taste of local delicacies, like buffalo sausage and Metsmustika Krops (forest blueberry crips.). Many of us purchased items to take with.

We continued to tour local historic sites, an old pharmacy and tour. The walk was delightful and easy. We stopped inside the tower to taste a snack that our host brought and shared a bottle of the local liquor. We also stopped for a rest and a taste of a contemporary chef's creations of dip style foods served with crusty bread and washed down with a local beer. The tour ended at a modern day wine purveyor. She shared a touching story of a man who traveled far away, only to return home in his later years to open this winery business.

The tour had scheduled a driver to take us back to our ship. But a hard rain had started and we couldn't find him. We hailed a cab and lickity split was back at our ship.

We spent a great day with our guide, Nicolai, wondering the streets of old town Tallinn! He was very knowledgeable about the history of Tallinn which enhanced our enjoyment of the day and food. Really felt like we had a great overview of Estonian cuisine, tried many food items we would never have attempted. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in good food and good company!!

This wonderful 4 hour tour was a great way to visit some”Local” bars and try their drinks and Estonian food bites. Paul who conducted our tour was fun, professional and made this tour very enjoyable. We visited 7 Local Bars and had a blast. We would recommend this tour as a great way to see the Local sights.

Paul (the guide) painstakingly took us to 8 food stops that represented Tallinn from medieval to modern times. He also shared a lot on the history of Tallinn and how Estonian fpod is influenced by German and Russian cuisine. We had 3 stops at Old Town's signature cafe. It was a trip to remember. Paul was a friendly, patient and professional guide :) Thumbs-up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We did the tour with Stina and had a wonderful time. It was only my husband & I on the tour so we appreciated them not canceling on us as we have experienced with other food tours. It was a nice variety of dishes and Stina gave us tidbits and noted points of interest along the way. My favorites were the soup dish & chocolates!

We had the pleasure of a private tour with Rasmus as we were the only ones who have booked this tour. Rasmus first asked us for our experiences with Tallinn and as we´ve been here before he skipped the basic history. We started out with a pumpkin parsnip soup at Peppersack plus a honey pepper vodka. Café Reval served the Estonian version of the Russian Pelmeni filled with lamb and a fresh carrot apple juice. The next stop was Chocolala - great chocolate and a nice museum. We continued through the historic downtown area and strolled through Katariina Gild (local artists) and along the historic city wall. We went to Café Maiasmokk next for a shake with fresh strawberries and kefir with Kama. We also got served dark bread with sprouts. We continued to the historic pharmacy (Antik Raeapteek) for some Panis Martius (marzipan) which was invented there (as the legend goes). Last stop were the new market halls behind the central station. There we tried at café So Brooklyn a fresh waffle filled with Kama cream cheese (Kama is grinded and roasted grain mix with either beans or peas) and a coffee. We ended up buying Kama at the supermarket on the lower level of the market as we liked it so much. Rasmus really did a great job and we can highly recommend this tour.
