The horror dungeon of Tallinn
Jan 2020
The former KGB headquarters in Tallinn lies in the Old Town in a building built in 1912. The prison cells in the basement have remained a symbol of the former Soviet oppression in Estonia.

Suspected enemies of the state were imprisoned and interrogated before they were either shot or sent to labor camps in Siberia. The cells were used until 1950.

There is not so much to see for the entrance fee of 5 euros. The basement has two corridors, six prison cells, and a punishment cell.

A reminder of mans inhumanity to his fellow man
Jan 2020 • Couples
The title sums it up. A small museum but if you are interested in modern history then well recommended. Sadly we’ve already visited Auschwitz and after attempting to try to take in the sheer scale of total inhumanity there this museum appears to be very small by comparison BUT it does not dilute the level of cruelty and terror inflicted on the poor souls incarcerated in these underground cells.

Interesting visit
Dec 2019 • Couples
The museum, although small, was very informative. The size was reflected in the price which was very reasonable. Lots of different ways of displaying information and hearing stories of those who had stayed in the cells. Good for a quick 30 minute visit.

Interesting and touching
Dec 2019 • Family
A small museum with just enough to make it worth the entry fee. Just to see the cells and small solitary cells and hear the stories of those who endured the wrath of the KGB was enough. Plenty of things to read. Quite a scary toilet that is in an old cell with a big cell door

Very moving

Very moving and a must whilst in tallin for 5 euros each ... you must learn this part of soviet history and hear and see first hand how awful it was for people to be kept in such conditions ... moving beyond words

Harrowing & Informative
Dec 2019 • Couples
A Very stark place, kept to look cold and un-inviting for maximum effect. Lots of info and detail, which, if you make your way through, leaves you feeling upset and saddened and also a little suspicious. Worthy of a visit for an hour or so.

Very informative relic of the recent past
Nov 2019
It's only thirty years since Estonia became free (yet again) from Soviet control, these premises show the fairly inhumane way the KGB treated its 'prisoners'. Although it's fairly difficult to assess that the Soviet 'agents' treated their victims any worse than other so called civilised nations. Most countries have a shady and shadowy past.

Eye opening

The museum brings home how people were treated and it's shocking to think it wasn't really that long ago. Worth a visit.

Over priced
Nov 2019
We spotted this little museum whilst wandering around Tallinn and decided to visit. It is interesting to see the confined areas that prisoners where kept in but we felt the admission fee was a little on the high side for what was on offer in such a small museum.

A must see
Nov 2019 • Couples
Very small museum. Still quite impressive. For us Finnish citizens it is quite horrible to see what happenned to our neighbours in Baltic countries. Glad we managed to avoid...
