Whilst all the exhibits are in Estonian, there is a thick booklet provided that translates everything. It's very comprehensive and informative. The model of a traditional spa room is quite interesting. There are two rooms with no English translations: the government office and an adjacent room with archeological findings. A staff member briefly filled me in on the general contents and meanings which was sufficient.

This museum is in central place and easy to visit. It is possible to buy a combination ticket for Haapsalu's most important attractions, 10 EUR ticket is valid for 3 months and you can visit the appointed attractions once during this period ( Railway and Communication Museum, Laanemaa Museum, Haapsalu Castle including the Cathedral and Ilon's World of Wonders ) and outside the city limits also Ants Laikmaa Museum. With the combination museum ticket it is well worth visiting.

This museum has info leaflets in Finnish, English and Russian language so you get quite a good idea how this city developed around the mud therapy and summer visitors. I thought the bathing cabins were very interesting.
There is also a small exhibition of Ants Laikmaa artwork.

The museum was founded in 1929 and is located in the building of the town hall built in 1775. The Town Hall was opened as a museum in 1950. The new permanent exhibition introduces Haapsalu in the beginning of the 20th century through the eyes of a visitor to the resort. The exposition provides an overview of life in Haapsalu, its urban environment and its most important sites.

We visited this museum after seeing some other sites in Old Town of Haapsalu. It wasn't so easy for us to realize, that this so common building used to be in 18th century, a town hall of Haapsalu. Officially, it is called Haapsalu Old Town Hall aka Haapsalu Raekoda Muuseum.
Nowadays, there are some permanent exhibitions within this Laanemaa Museum, telling us about this charming city, in the beginning of 20th century, of its everyday life, of its tradition as a resort
town and very known spa. Here, we were also acquainted with the town's urban environment and its most important sites.
Nice museum, after all !
