I absolutely love Astrid Lindgren books and for that reason I also love Ilon Wikland illustrations. Recently I have fallen in love with her books also and of course the story that is behind her life and her career.
I am so happy I have autograph from her and I am so happy I managed to visit Ilon's World of Wonders. I am 24 years old, I was there alone and I could have easily spent there hours, pulled into a perfect world of a child.
I will go there again for sure and again I will enjoy it.

Nice place, it not only impresses with the big collection of illustrations, but also gives special romantic atmosphere to the whole town of Haapsalu as far as you start to see it as the place which inspired the painter. Also gives new knowledge - did not know before the author of Karlsson image

Haapsalu is a small Estonian town at a distance of hundred kilometers from the capital of Estonia Tallinn. There are many wonderful sightseeings beginning from beautiful railway station, that is the museum now and to an unusual museum Ilon's World of Wonders. Ilon Vikland, who is now 96 years old, is Sweden artist, Estonian in origin, illustrator of almost all famous Astrid Lindgren's books written for children: The Six Bullerby Children (a.k.a. The Children of Noisy Village), Karlsson-on-the-Roof, Mio, My Son, Ronia the Robber's Daughter and others. When she was 14 she escaped to Sweden from Soviet occupation of Estonia.
Many generations read Astrid Lindgren's books with her pictures and used to take Lindgren's characters are seen through her eyes.
In 2004 Ilon Wikland presented all her illustrations and paintings to Estonia. The government has allocated a three-storey house in Haapsalu into a Museum and gallery. There are the hall for exhibitions, a big room for crafts and games. You can come to the small Carlson's apartments on the roof, try on different costumes, play and draw.
in the big yard there are all for different games, workshop for the construction of the ships and puppets design, take a picture with Carlson, to walk on stilts, throw tennis balls and bring down the figures in the dash and much more.
And in the end of your adventures you can buy a postcard and stamp you can buy apostcard and stamp and send the postcard to friends directly from the lobby of the Ilon's World of Wonders.
At least three hours of pleasure to children is provided.

This museum-playground is a perfect place to take children of all ages. As well as a collection of the drawings of Ilon Wikland who illustrated the population children books of Astrid Lindgren there are playrooms where children can draw, read, create handicrafts and just play. Ilon Wikland has recreated Kaspar's room which can keep children amused for a long time. Outside there are play areas and places for a picnic on a sunny day. For adults there is a film of Ilon Wikland's life.
