Immaculately clean city with friendly and welcoming people and great historical architecture, whats not to love about Vilnius. Just a 3 hour flight from London City airport, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived, The airport is well connected to the city centre by train or bus, but we selected to catch a cab, which was really reasonable.
Small shops on the narrow streets sell amber jewellery, wood carvings and other souvenirs, while lively bars, hotels and restaurants surround the area. Vilnius Old Town is awash with historical buildings in a range of styles from barogue and gothic churches to the medieval church tower and is a safe place to walk around in daylight and at night. Great place to visit.

I walked around the Old Town and saw many of the sights without endless tour groups.
If you want a quick look, and maybe want to avoid rain, try the Number 89 bus!
Buying tickets from the driver will cost 1 Euro in each direction.
A new path was being created up to the tower, which will probably be more accessible than the wooden steps, but the tiny funicular is another option.

Very cute Old Town, some buildings look old, other have very beautiful facades. The Old Town is easily done on foot, in 2 hours you can see everything with long photo stops. I recommend to visit Vilnius in autumn it was simply beautiful and the colors of the leaves were stunning.

The old town is larger than what is advertised on the street signs but the authorities are obsessed by public relations and so they announce the old town begins where the street that has neatly restored buildings, the mediocre tourist-trap cafes and restaurants and lame luxury shops (that are almost always empty) begins.
On Sunday morning which turned out to be a day during which a marathon was taking place I was at the airport and couldn't buy a ticket to the bus because the only shop that sells them at the airport was closed.
Inside the bus the driver can't/won't sell a paper ticket for one euro and there are no ticket selling machines. The only option a bewildered tourist has is to download the application of Vilnius public transport to his/her smartphone and then discover the application only accepts locally issued credit cards. So yes, the signs in English publicizing this wonderful application is for the 5,000 or so non-Lithuanian speakers who happen to also be resident in Vilnius and have a local credit card. Nirvana!
The cherry on the cake is that b cause of the marathon bus number 3G was constantly rerouted but this didn't show on Google maps which boils down to negligence on behalf of the Lithuanian Gov. who is famous for participating on ever globalist initiative so they really have no excuse...
Walking around the center I noticed a quarter to a third of the roads were being dug up. I really wonder is August (which is traditionally the month Vilnius gets the most tourists in every year) the he best time to dig up the city? Can't they wait two months when tourist numbers drop to a trickle?..

Vilnius Old Town has a very beautiful architecture and churches everywhere you go. Most places of interest are within walking distance from the Cathedral Basilica Place. We got city maps and lots of information in the Town Hall. Don't miss the enjoyable Walking Tours with locals. We had a brilliant guide called Sarunas who made the Vilnius Jewish Tour and the Vilnius Soviet Tour interesting and fun at the price of € 12 per tour and person. There are even free walking tours with a voluntary tip for the guide. Instead of foreign fast food chains, Vilnius offers a variety of different restaurants and cafés with excellent food - nice soups, fish, burgers, apple crumble and Lithuanian dishes - all at a very reasonable price. We only saw one Kentucky fried chicken and one McDonalds restaurant in Gedimino pr.

Vilnius Old Town is one of the largest surviving medieval old towns in Northern Europe.
There are winding cobblestone streets, picturesque churches, and other historical buildings that have striking architectural styles: gothic, renaissance, baroque, or neoclassical.
Pilies Street is the main street with many cafes and restaurants. The Cathedral Square and the Town Hall Square are the main squares.

This is another great old town. Although it does not have the compact, walled quaintness of Tallinn, it is great to walk the city streets and parks seeing the old building and beautiful gardens. This is definitely a city I could see myself living in.

Vilnius is an amazing city filled with amazing architecture, places to eat and drinks and amazing people who are more than helpful to tourists. You can easily walk to many of he popular tourist attractions and public transport is very easy to use. I would highly recommend this city!

Vilnius is an absolute must to visit. We felt very safe here at all times and the people are very friendly. There’s lots to see and do, many very good restaurants and coffee shops. The pubs serve a wide variety of local ales all at a reasonable cost. Pubs are open until 5am Thurs, Fri and Sat. Overall it’s a bit cheaper than the UK (with the £ being about €1.14 on our visit). There’s places to run along the river paths and in the parks, public transport to and from the airport is very cheap (€1 by train and only 7 minutes) or a ‘Bolt’ taxi will cost you about €5. It’s very cold in the winter so bring appropriate clothing!

Lovely and full of soul! So many nice to see. In the main street we only found very expensive clothing stores so we were not shopping. But very nice old architecture, charming cobbled streets, visitation and small cafes.

A minha avaliação anterior pendente. Falava da comida boa e um preço acessível (comida barata, termo usado no Brasil)!

Taxi would only take you 10-15 mins from the Vilnius Airport and there are plenty to see, especially the Old Town - which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Actually, Vilnius is twice bigger than Achen, and Have about 800 tousunds with suburbs. Lots of people live in houses or cotegges about 20 km awau from old town. And these hoses often better quality than in Germany

Do people in Vilnius speak English or Russian?
По-русски в Вильнюсе говорят далеко не все, особенно официанты в ресторанах предпочитают говорить по-английски.

The vest Way is By train. Then you can walk thru The town towards the castle or it might be some cabs at the station. Also, a bus is an option, train and bus stations are close by.
