Amazing - Must Visit
Jun 2018 • Solo
This synagogue is beautiful, and really stands out in Nitra. Entry is inexpensive, and it is lovely to just walk around and explore the space. There are some nice exhibits here too as well, and the lady on the entrance door is the nicest person I've met - caring, happy to carry on a conversation and provided some great insight.
Would definitely recommend a visit!

in the old town
May 2018 • Couples
If you are doing Nitra old town walk, you will for sure pass it, and recognize it. Building does take the focus. We didn't go in, it was late in the evening.

"Yet another impressive memorial to a lost community..."
Sep 2017 • Couples
Strolling back from the Nitra Castle, we fortuitously discovered this beautiful structure when 'Pri synagoge' street signpost caught our eye. As it was locked, we were unable to gain entry, but were touched by the simple, Moorish lines of the generously proportioned building.
While no longer an active place of worship - since the resident Jews met the same fate as most of the communities in Czechia during the Nazi occupation - it was appropriated by the city fathers, sympathetically restored and today serves both as a museum memorializing the lost community, as well as a public concert venue. There is also a memorial in the rear of the synagogue commemorating the city's Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

A peaceful retreat
May 2017 • Friends
Situated in the heart of Nitra the quiet atmosphere is quite something. The architecture is simple but beautiful. You can go for an exhibition (check the website for what's on ) . If you plan it well you can catch a concert in the Synagogue which is a treat as the acoustics are pretty good.

Cultural experience, definite must-see
May 2017 • Couples
Don't be put off by the closed gate and door! We felt a bit sneaky opening the gate and entering, but apparently as a visitor you are supposed to.
Inside the synagogue there was a lovely woman who explained us in cute broken English the history of the building, complete with pictures. For just 1 euro we could visit two exhibitions of local painters, one informative exhibition about daily Jewish life and one about a famous Israeli-Nitra artist. Beautiful building, great vibe. I love the fact that the city bought this place to renovate and then opened its doors to all interested in culture.

Nitra's Gem

Fantastic Synagoga! We had the opportunity to visit a very passionate English tour guide, 2 arts exhibitions, a live rehearsal from the Art School's band and a BEAUTIFUL architectural gem. Besides the fact the entrance was 1 euro for each person. Amazing place, a must see if you are in Nitra. It totally made our day trip.

Sophisticated building
Jul 2016 • Couples
It is of considerable architectural quality with chaste Moorish elements. I attended a dramatic performance for which the former synagogue was eminently suitable.
