Very well put together museum on 3 floors with lots to see for adults and kids, from cave exploration to cultures and wildlife and more, in an interesting converted building. Nice also to walk round the old town centre.

Very detailed museum nicely laid out and done. There is no restaurant in the museum which would have been nice. Recommended visit and you can spend quite some time here with kids. All animals of the region, life development of the earth, our solar system, caves of the world, the region history.

I was in museum with my baby son and parents. It was during special event - Night of museums. Even there were lot of people, we enjoyed it.
Exhibition is interactive, in Slovak and English. It's divided into several parts i.e. speleology, protection of nature, universe and Earth.
Currently observatory is closed due to nesting of storks. It might be opened in second half of June again.
Once little one is older, we will go there again. I think you can discover something new for you every time.

All floors are equipped by elevators and there is also table for changing nappies.
You can get there in 15 minutes by walk from most of the parking places around town centre, 20-30 minutes from main train and bus station. There is also little garden. There is dedicated area for eating (own food), I'm not sure if there's small bar for refreshment.

Check opening hours before visit, Tuesdays are closed, also weekends out of summer and winter season.

One would rightfully expect that a visit to the "Slovak Museum of Nature Protection and Speleology" can only result in spending a boring, albeit short afternoon in a depressive worn-out building. You could not be farther from truth. This is easily the best museum in Slovakia (not a big feat, I know). Modern, comprehensive, interactive, fun, stimulating, fascinating...all of it. It combines a really large number of topics. It deals with all aspects of caves (I know, but you wont be bored, I promise, I have never been a cave fan myself), nature protection, tourism, development of life on Earth, animals in Slovak wildlife, mining, history, and much much more. The audio guide is great (comes in English too) but there is plenty of information (Slovak and English) all along the museum panels arranged on 3 floors. Kids will love this place. Reserve 3 hours at least. Bonus - its really cheap (€10 for a family of four). Dont miss this one on a rainy day!! Or a sunny one. Oh yeah, and dont get scared because of the ancient website they have, I am sure they are working on a new one.

small and unassuming, beautifully designed. The speleology section was brilliant, including sound and several interesting rooms. all information is in english, side by side with the slovakian. the audioguide was fun to operate but the information was a little tedious. staff was super friendly.
