Its a lovely fountain that depicts Ganymed being carried to the top of Mt Olympus so he can serve the gods. Below that are children or figures holding fish from the Danube river. However, due to the time we were there, no water was issuing from the fishes mouths as the fountain was bare of water for the winter period. However, it is still a lovely piece of sculpted architecture. It is located in front of the National theatre which in itself is a lovely building worth seeing.

This fountain is right in front of the opera house. It’s pretty nice on it’s own. It doesn’t take long to look at. It’s not really worthy of going out of the way but the opera house is right there.

This fountain in Hviezdoslavovo square is so called because it tells the Greek story of Ganymede. The sculptural ensemble of the fountain features a centrepiece of a sculpture of Ganymede with a cup in his hand, being borne aloft on the back of an eagle. The sculpture alludes to the story of the handsome Trojan prince who was carried off to heaven by Zeus in the shape of an eagle where he became the cup-bearer to the gods, which would’ve been a position of honour.
The sculptural ensemble is completed by four sculptures of youths, each holding a large fish spewing water into the fountain basin. Not only is this a handsome fountain, it is directly in front of the Slovak National Theatre, which is itself a handsome building. The two make a great photogenic spot and as you can imagine, a popular tourist stop.

Directly outside the Opera House in the heart of Hviezdoslavovo námestie is Ganymede's Fountain. It was created in 1888 by sculptor Viktor Tilgner and depicts figures from Greek mythology including an eagle carrying a young Ganymede to the summit of Mount Olympus from the order by Goddess Dia in order so he could serve the Gods. The fountain is one of many in the city but not all of them have such a prestigious location as Ganymede's Fountain.

Fontain Ganymed is a wonderful piece of work that makes people stop and watch the kids who stay under the jets of water. Highlights the beautiful facade of the National Theater.

Nice place.Nice to sit there. When we were there, it was winter and the fountain didn't work, but my kids and me enjoyed the atmosphere.

Directly in front of Bratislava’s National Theatre is Fontain Ganymed, a depiction of ancient mythology. One of the Old Town’s more ornate and decorator water features and found in a lovely and lively area of the city.

We loved strolling around the statue especially at light with the Christmas market nearby. The place gets a little crowded, but it is still beautiful!

This fountain is absolutely beautiful and not just because it looks glorious in front of the Old National Theatre building which in itself is a marvel to look at, but because its multi-layering and cherub children inspired sculptures has a Parisian feel to it.
You could place this fountain anyway in Paris and it wouldn't look out of place. The unique detailing of each child playing, each different animal on the first layer atop is a joy. The fountain itself brings a feeling of calm.

A nice fountain with good details in the statue. Great for a photo op with the classic architecture in the background. It's along the way when you tour the old town area.
