There are two hypotheses about what the statue portrays: 1) the “watcher” is trying to get a look under ladies’ skirts; or 2) perhaps he’s a typical communist-era worker who works little and watches a lot? Either way, it's one of the most photographed spots in all of Bratislava.Visited November 2022Written January 9, 2023
- Ginges_revengeBrisbane, Australia4,699 contributionsHardest working statue in Bratislava Old townBoy was this little statue busy and popular. We visited fairly early in the day and there was a lot of people around. We listened to a walking tour operator who said to his tour group that when he arrives at this time in the morning with his tour groups, there is normally no-one around and he was actually surprised how busy it was. We had to wait to get a photo and there are your general clowns being annoying and getting in peoples way deliberately just to be a pain. These were quickly hurried away by some annoyed people who were trying to get photos. I actually thought is was going to turn ugly and the annoying people left quite quickly when they realized the people they upset were really angry with them. As soon as the trouble makers left, peace returned and everyone cordially lined up and took their turns getting photos which is always nice. Its a shame some people need to ruin it for other people. The statue itself I thought was a bit of cheeky fun and I really liked it. He's a bit of a character. A must see for look and a photo when in Bratislava old town.Visited February 2023Written April 1, 2023
- Rune SHedensted, Denmark16 contributionsBeautiful city - worth a visitBratislava is like many older Eastern European cities, a mix of old culture and modern living. We have enjoyed the old town with castles and churches the most, but also appreciate many of the restaurants, bars and malls. Reason for not giving a 5/5 rating, is the touristic impact especially in the old town area . This is a shame. Everything else is great and we could easily swing by another time.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 20, 2023
- LaurenBournemouth, United Kingdom70 contributionsFunny guy, Cumil!Funny little guy in old town, you don’t need to go out of your way to see him. You will almost certainly stumble upon him soon enough on your travels though the streets. Cool guy, lots of people queuing to take pics with him, I like what he represents :)Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 29, 2023
- TimeTripperVantaa, Finland695 contributionsFunny and original!A great and funny idea that is a sure tourist attraction in the historical centre of Bratislava. Please keep that in mind if you want a picture without other people or with your own company and choose a time when there are not too many tourists around. Otherwise you might wait and wait for your turn of a decent picture...Visited August 2023Traveled soloWritten August 30, 2023
- product-of-canadaToronto, Canada2,367 contributionsMore cities need whimsical art like thisWe are early risers, and there was no one around for photos. Fun 'Easter egg' art like this should be more common in big cities. Prague has this down pat with their yellow penguins, Černý babies, embryo, peeing statues, and so on. I wish Toronto would do more of this.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2023

Nothing is special .. but it is a memory for my visit to a small , simple and unique city that should not miss you when visiting the nearby Vienna . It is easily approached by the regional express from Vienna by round trip ticket costing 17 euros

What a fun sculpture! I found the artwork in stores to be very whimsical just like this cute statue. Our city guide said it is the most photographed sculpture in the city. He also said this workman likes to look up girls' skirts! LOL

"The man who looks under the skirts of women." I had seen a photo of this sculpture that appears to be coming out of the sewer, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is located in Slovakia. A catchy and fresh idea, all people stopped to see and take pictures with him.

Actually visited on Danube Christmas Cruise in 2017. We were told by our guide that If you rubbed this little guy’s head, that it would bring fertility with children or grandchildren. My wife and my friend both rubbed his little head. Now we have between us with Grands, 1 set of twins, one other child that will be two, and one expecting any minute now that may have the same day of birth as the two year old. Also, another daughter in law that is at pregnant Don’t rub too hard!!

Given some of the oppressive history of this region, my husband and I automatically thought that this statue must represent "escaping" or some sort of underground resistance. However, our tour guide told us that it's actually a guy positioned to look up women's skirts! Ew. Looking up the statue online, it's called "Rubberneck" in English.
Our guide also informed us that many people rub the hat for good luck, but given the statue's placement and low height, it's a favorite "stop" for local dogs. So I'm not sure how lucky it is to touch it.
Alright.

Despite its small size, you can't really miss it because there is always a crowd waiting for their turns to take pictures of or with the man in hat peering out of a manhole.
Some squatted to pat the hat.
Isn't much to see and admire anyway save maybe for kids?

I think you're the idiot - you've clicked "ask a question" but tried to insult someone for their opinion instead. Also, might be worth a quick proof read as your grammar is not quite right. hmmmm. think before you "speak"
