Read a few reviews on different sites and decided to go for a day from Vienna, as its only one hours drive.
Very pleasant afternoon in an old town, which has lots of cafes, few shops, lovely buildings and a castle. Unfortunately outside the old town its just an old communist city, with high rise, uninteresting buildings etc. so an afternoon in Bratislava old city is more than enough to get a feeling

As you walk under the gate your first impression of the capital will be inspiring. Fresh and active with outgoing people, the many cafes and bars are lined along the street emanating from the entrance. The dome is scaffolded and under repair in June of 2022.

Tower Michaels gate is the only tower of the old city walls that is left. It is at the end of St Michaels street. It used to sit over a moat surrounding the old city in the 1300's. It is a must see if the old city as its one of the oldest buildings in town.

I read about the gate and it is definitely a must-see! What was impressive about it was how large it was. I also found the restaurants to be top-notch, and the people watching to be fantastic. Everyone was having such a great time. Bratislava is a beautiful city with a relatively compact center. I highly recommend it.

Michalska Brana is the only city gate that still preserved from the old medieval fortifications. The first tower was built in the 1300s and got it’s present Baroque style during a phase of reconstruction in the 18th century. I thought it looked okay and not much different from many other medieval gates, but I didn’t go inside or climb the tower, so maybe that was a factor.

Lovely entrance to Old Town, there is also a small bridge where you can take some nice pictures. There is also a museum inside. Also plenty shops and restaurants in the area which is usually filled with tourists.

Michaels gate is the last of the 4 medieval gates that protected the city centre. What was once a fortified entrance is now a museum of weaponry.

It is a shame that this is the last on preserved but a lot of the medieval fortification has now disappeared and this is a brilliant reminder of its past.

Walking down from the main train station you will walk under this on the way into the old city.

We recently spent some a couple days in Bratislava and passed through Michael's Gate on a few occasions, passing under the 51 meter tower, known as Micheal's Tower.

The Gate itself is the only one remaining from the original medieval fortifications surrounding the city, being built around 1300. It is presently supporting Baroque era design as a result of restorations and reconstruction in the 1750s. The Tower extends into the sky, creating a striking image against the deep blue. You can visit the inside of the tower, which presently houses the Weapons Exhibition section to the Bratislava Museum. Great views of the city are afforded to those who climb to the top of Micheal's Tower. Similar views of the Main Square and city are found Bratislava City Museum at the Old Town Hall.

Overall, Micheal's Gate and Tower and nice additions to the collection of attractions you can see in the city center area and are well worth finding during visiting Bratislava. We would certainly seek it out again when visiting Bratislava.
