The view of Balaton from the upper terrace is unbeatable. All dishes we had were all excellent. The duck confite was the prepared exceptionally well, by far the best duck dish I’ve ever had.

Staff is courteous.

Tihany is a lovely, but very crowded place. Also the Tihany Echo is well visited. We went to Tihany Echo and many visitors tried to shout loudly but no echo returned. Was it just a bad day or they did it wrong?

Tihany is surely one of the best preserved old Pannonian villages anywhere. Houses are still covered with thatched roofs and their walls are made from clay. In addition, there are some house ornaments from vine, ivy or even dried chili peppers. In the autumn time (especially in October) these ornaments turn to very interesting colours, such as trees in the background. Village is also known for its lavender. Pottery, wine and palinka are also found there, along with some traditional Hungarian culinary.

There are two great viewing points to the amazing Lake Balaton. One is along the Tihany abbey and the other is on the Tihany Echo hill. For the Tihany Echo, it is believed that in the 19th century voices from the Echo hill returned back from the wall of the church building for the first time (or it was only observed/tried for the first time), so it has also some history behind it. As say some people, who tried to shout from there, it really works also on these days but you have to shout really loud.

Many people say that the Echo was destroyed due to architectural changes in the sights vicinity but we try it every time we are in Tihany and it works, even during daytime, even in the tourist season, even with noise around you, even if the kids are shouting... of course the Echo is best challenged with the deep voice of my husband. Try shouting "Szeretlek Pali!" :) It's a tribute to a funny old Hungarian movie I really like.

Make sure to make your way to Echo Hill. The views are amazing over Balaton. We went to one of the restaurants with a beautiful view over the lake for a drink and dessert. Well worth the trip.

There's a marked place to stand and although I felt incredibly self conscious doing it, nevertheless having watched the technique employed by a couple of other people I gave it a go - and it does sound like your shout is bouncing right back at you. It made me laugh and jump a little too with surprise that it did work. Tihany is, despite the crowds of tourists, quite a lovely little town and well worth the visit whether you try the echo or not.

Tihany is a small place at Lake Balaton in Hungary with an old parish and a well preserved old fisher-village, nowadays transformed in a tourist attraction around lavender and the 7x-echo supposed to be heard from the echo-spot when one shouts towards the church. A nice view over the lake and a lot of boutiques and restaurants complete the experience.

Friendly service, delicious food coupled with the beautiful view of the lake. It is a must to try the taste of levander.

A quaint walk up the cobble stone streets , past thatched houses and colourful local shops, you reach Tihany Echo. The view is beuaitful, but male sure you stop at the statue of the girl calling out - you can call too, but the echo doesn't really work. Still it's fun to give it a try. There's also the powerful steps of the Stations of the Cross on the way up.

I liked the atmosphere of Tihany in May, when the place is not loaded with tourists. We hiked around the whole peninsula during the weekend and we saw unexpectedly beautiful places on each side of the peninsula. There are a couple of trails in Tihany worth the walk.
