The Reok Mansion (Reok Palota) serves today (since 2007) as the Regional Arts Center. On the ground floor, a restaurant and bar occupy most of the footprint, with pleasant outdoor tables looking at Dugonics square. The building was designed in 1906 by Ede Magyar (sometimes called the Hungarian Gaudi) in typical Secessionist style, better known in the West as Art Nouveau. The lively colors (green and lilac over stark white) are striking and attract the passerby to examine closely the amazing design and decorative arts. The sinuous rooflines, the uneven flow of balconies and windows, the stucco work and stone carvings all come together in an explosion of flowers, while the wrought iron work adds to the impressive façade of this two-story corner building. While a couple of earlier restorations damaged some of the accent pieces, the most recent renovation (2007) went a long way towards reconciling it image to the original design. Today it hosts art exhibits and serves as a venue for concerts, recitals and theatrical productions.

Reok Palace is the masterpiece of Ede Magyar. The palace was once a mansion for a wealthy water engineer (Istvan Reok) whereby Ede Magyar designed the palace around a water theme. The grand palace had a staircase made out of wrought iron with golden flowers, which is what the whole tour seems to be about these days. However, if you actually take a tour with a tour guide from the official tourist board you get a much better idea of its history and the subtle designs embedded within its brickwork.

Palace Reok is a mind blowing green and lilac art nouveau building, just amazing! In the heart of Szeged, where the same kind water works with very storytale atmosphere.

A wonderful example of Hungarian Art Nouveau with an art gallery on the bottom floor. Well worth a look for fans of architecture to understand the varieties of Art Nouveau buildings in Hungary. You can compare this building with other Art Nouveau in Szeged, such as the nearby synagogue and see the differences within the movement.

The place of fairy tales, what a beautiful building, did not manage to go round it all but managed to get a sneak peak and some fantastic pictures of the stair way and ground floor.
The exterior is absolutely stunning with flowers and iron work on the small balconies.
Really worth a visit.

There is a little place to sit right across. It is in downtown so the area is very popular and busy all day in the summer. Just looking at it makes you feel good. The colors are pastel soft, the details are just exquisite. If you have an opportunity to see inside do not miss. There is ice cream in the exterior and many coffee shops and restaurants along the side.

It is very difficult to decide which building is more beautiful - Reok Palace or Grof Palace. Reok Palace is also an Art-Nouveau style building and is the work of "Gaudi of Hungary" - the architect Ede Magyar. Sure, the exterior architecture is fascinating, but you must also visit the interior. The interior stairs are a gem!
