Nathional Pantheon is a part of University in Szeged, Hungary. It is situated at Dom Tèr City Centre and surrounds Votive Church. It contains 80 monuments and reliefs of famous Hungarians around the square. Part of the Pantheon is also Singing Clock and Library.
Since I have no words to describe this place, I reccomand you to visit it.

Very interesting display of famous Hungarians which goes all around the main square in front of the Cathedral.
Some light renovations would be nice, aswell as some further informations about represented people in English.

A great selection of figures of Hungary, e.g. heroes, kings, scientists and artists. I felt a loss of comprehension because you don't get to read about them, e.g. a short one-liner of why each figure was famous. For that, you need to search the internet. All said and done, this is still not to be missed. Combine the visit with Heroes Gate and the square and many more sights in the surrounding area.

Lining the walls of the cloisters running around three sides of the Square are sculptures of the great and the good of Hungary and Szeged. Most are standard head portraits, some are run-of-the-mill bas-reliefs.
There are 3 notable exceptions. All three are located on the east side of the cloisters.
The first is a macabre 3D relief sculpture dedicated to Apáczai Cseri János who lived 1625-1659 and in the short time between 1653 and his demise, compiled the first Hungarian encyclopedia.
The second is an exquisite 3D marble wall relief (the details of the admirer's Roman-style attire and the decorations on her hat are astonishing). This is a memorial for Benedek Virág 1754-1830, teacher, poet, translator, historian, and the first master of Hungarian orthodox poetry. My understanding is that the sculpture was made at the request of an anonymous ‘female’ admirer of Virág.
Interestingly Virág's birth date, MDCCL on this relief equates to 1750, varies across websites and memorials from 1752 to 1754.
The third is an ornate life-size sarcophagus for a noble worthy who is displayed reclining in eternal repose on the top.
Well worth visiting at the same time as the Votive Church.

The statues around the sides are a lesson in Hungarian history and culture. No women though! But good to see different disciplines and arts represented.

Under the arcades of the main square by the votive church there are the most famous figures of Hungary, heroes, kings, scientists and artists.
It is exciting to see all these famous people one after the other.

You learn at once the Hungarian history. If you walk around you will have a good overview what happened and who the people were who managed this city too.
