Main open square in the center of the old town
This square has many monuments and statuary in a very large and open surrounding. The county hall, which is directly on this square, is a lovely building with huge artworks on the outside of the top floor. You can really feel the use of the square many years ago as it served as the marketplace for farmers to sell their wares.

    We'll be back very soon
Lovely Dotto ride around the city and relaxing at one of the many cafe bars around the square. Visited the old mosque (now a Catholic Church) and a short walk to the beautiful Cathedral. Lots of wonderful statues and steeped in history. Coffee and cakes in the lovely cathedral cafe. Spent the whole day just drinking in the atmosphere of this great university city.

    Very nice city
A very nice square with interesting buildings and interesting history. Several nice places to eat and unwind. The city of Pecs is a nice place to visit, small, but with many places to see. Very nice for pleasant walks.

One of the most beautiful squares I have ever seen in Europe. It is awesome and a great place for photos. We spent the weekend in Pecs and every time we walked through or by this square I saw something new and interesting. Lovely place!

Besides having Mosque of Pasha Qasim, the City Hall, Zsolnay fountain and a lot of monuments at this square surrounded by pretty buildings, the uniqueness of Szechenyi ter is also in its slope. If you will stand near the Mosque and look down the square, you will be a lucky witness of a very pretty view, especially during dusk.

We (a couple) also recommend you to visit McDonald's located at this square to have a quick meal while enjoying a view to the square that opens from the restaurant's big windows.

And if you are going to hear a strange music similar to the one that comes from an ice cream truck, then it is time to run at the back of the Mosque to check St. Bartholomew’s Bell Tower. It is 21st century modern bell tower that automatically rings the bells and plays music only couple a times during day, so make sure not to miss the show!

Just sit and take in the old buildings which have been meticulously restored. There are free concerts and more locals than tourists. A real treat.

This is as good a place as any to start a tour of the town. When we were there Michelangelo's horse was set up there as part of the Michelangelo exhibition which added greatly to the imposing impression of this square. Unfortunately the mosque at the top end was covered in scaffolding and closed to the public but just below it is a rather wonderful water installation reminiscent of Pamukkale in Turkey, a series of steps with water running down them which made for a very refreshing paddle. There are plenty of places to sit and have a coffee or an icecream and while away the time. The prime position on one corner is unfortunately occupied by a McDonalds, but that is nothing new these days.

The city of Pécs has a colorful history with different religions. The Széchenyi square is a summary of the past, with the mosque, the buildings embellished with the Zsolnay ceramics and the Christian church. I recommend a night visit too and drink a beer or wine there.

Szechenyi square feels like the center of the city. It is one of it's most important places to visit. We have been there about 10 times over several years and there is alwyas something going on. The area seems to usually have street performers and children's activites going on. The square is lined with places to eat and coffee shops. There is also a city tour train that begins and ends in the square. The church on the square is indicitive of the history of Hungary and worth a visit.

A beautiful and unique square with a view and atmosphere that you can't find anywhere else in Hungary. One of the nicest monuments (the djami) from Hungary's turqish occupation.
It's a bit of shame they made of it a christian church.
Also, this is the only square I know so fare which lost some of its atmosphere sice cars were banned out. (Ok, maybe it is just nostalgy as I spent years of my youth here.)

Pecs originally being my hometown I recently visited this place as a tourist after many years. I am spechless. The new town square is modern, beautiful, full of life and possibilities for party. Summer weekends feel nothing I’ve experienced here before. It felt exactly like Madrid, a bit smaller and cheaper, but the same loud music and dancing people on the streets. You can reach all the important places from here by max 10 mins walk. Most of the places speak English but have some cash in your pocket as the smaller places might not accept credit cards. 30-50€ can cover a nightout without problem with food and beer.
