This small little museum contains a sampling of works from the various periods of Vasarely’s artistic career and a room in which you can watch a documentary. The rooms are filled with Vasarely’s paintings, drawing, large tapestries, and 3D pieces such as the famous his chess set. You will be amazed by his zebra and chess-related artworks. I really liked Claire Vasarely’s bucolic, fancy tapestries. Were they handwoven in the Atelier Tabard Freres in Aubusson France? I really loved the tapestries I saw but expected more information on how they both ventured onto this interesting medium.
In addition to the museum I recommend visiting Vasarely’s Sign Sculpture made of porcelain tile outside Pauline Church in Pécs.

This museum is a must but is not easy to find! It is located in a building across the Zsolnay Muzeum, but the entrance is at the very end of the courtyard, on the left hand side...
Most of the exhibits in this museum were made by Victor Vasarely himself, but there are some work by his wife and his son. The huge tapestries are very impressive. Most of the exhibits are 2D, but some of them are 3D, producing interesting optical effects. The highlight of the exhibition is his chess set, made of acrylic glass on top of a very distinctive chess table. Simply mesmerizing...

Vasarely was born in Pecs. The museum is well worth a visit showing the development of the art work of Victor Vasarely from different periods of his life. The 2 floor exhibition has some very exquisite pieces of his work with tapestries and paintings. The play with perspective gives a special depth to his art. The museum is very reasonable in size so you do not have to spend a whole day, an hour or two is enough.

Poor organization. Museum does not update information on opening and closing times. We lost hours and money (Budapest card) to be told that the museum is closed until an unspecified date. Really disrespectful attitude, I also feel cheated because a good part of the attractions purchased with the Budapest card are not accessible.

We loved the vaserely museum! It is intimate but has a superb collection. We paid for the audio guides which were very informative and helpful. I knew about vaserely a little before the trip, but was thoroughly impressed with all of his work! Really worth a trip.

We did not know anything about Vasarely before our visit to this museum. Now we do. Even our kids loved it and tried to make a 3d-sketch of their own.... (in which they, of course, failed....).

Op art was in its time an entirely new art form, and Vasarely was its pioneer. Wonderful to see this exhibition in the birthplace of the artist

Brilliant! When you come out you start seeing op-art everywhere - in cobblestones, in the foam on your beer....

Unusual collection, well curated and presented. No english explanations which was a shame but this is Hungary I suppose. Will have to do some research ourselves.

We had these wonderful op art works all to ourselves.
No problem to take photos either.
Vasarely was born in Pecs and they should be very proud of this genius.
