Take the waters and feel great afterwards. This popular health spa has been in operation for ages. I think I might have seen one of its first patients. It must work as he appeared to be over 100 and still swimming.

Our visit to the lake wash "refreshing". Although the water-temperature is 28 degrees C, and many people are present, we could find free beds and a place in the shadow. The sound level was surprisingly low. Don't skip this when you are in Heviz.

I really enjoyed the spa at Heviz. After a good swim in the lake in the afternoon it is nice to have your muscles relaxing. Friendly people who do speak a bit of English and German.

We may have had too high expectations, so go with low expectations. We do not speak Hungarian, so we're at a slight disadvantage. We went to the spa before we went to our hotel, so had no towels or slippers. We had to rent them. It was confusing for us English only speakers to work out the process. Here it goes. Pay 2600 Huf each at the front desk. You will be give an electronic band that gives you access to a locker and determines the length of time you have paid for. Go to the change rooms which are both male and female, but don't get changed there. There are cubicles to get changed in. Find a small black box with a blue light. Hold your band against the light, it will tell you your locker number. Ask where to hire towels...they are In the actual spa area. Take a small trek to the main spa house. Hire a small tea towel sized rough towel for 1000 huf. Pay a a refundable deposit of 1000 huf. We tried the outdoor lake, but for us, it was too cool. Go inside and get in the smelly water. It was a cross between a mild smelly fish tank and surfer dioxide. There is a lot of algae/slime on the wood and concrete pilots, which could account for the smell. We spent about an hour in the spa, but it was nowhere near warm enough to feel any heat benefits. It's hard to tell if there were therapeutic benefits due to the minerals in the water. We were able to have a shower which was much warmer than the actual spa. We dried off with our scratchy tea towels, but still had wet swimmers on. We used the hair dryers to try to warm ourselves before the trek back to the change room. As we no longer had towels, we had to take of our wet swimmers to put out on our dry clothes, so we weren't completely dry.
There is a bar there, but if you are driving, remember the alcohol limit for driving is zero in Hungary. We saw police conducting breathalyser tests on the way in.
Perhaps it is much nicer in summer, but I have no idea how it would be improved.

We spent a lovely day at the lake. It was a very unique experience with the saunas, pools, and thermal lake. Worth spending the entire day at the lake.

We reserved for some spa treatment by email before we arrived (seemed that it is hard to get a spot on site). The staff at the spa was extra helpful in email and when we arrived they spoke English and tried their best to help us. When we arrived, we didn’t know which was which so we were first in St Andrew but the staff there was totally unhelpful (i.e., turn away their faces when we approach them) – we found this later not atypical Hungarian service but as a famous spa town we thought they could be a bit more welcoming. Anyway, we tried mud treatment (wrap 2 parts of your body with mud extracted from the lake) and several types of massages with professional and friendly masseurs. Worth a try.

Plan to spend several hours or even days here. We floated around with noodles for about 2 hours and it was nice. Water is nice and warm, not hot. Wish we could have spent more time there. They have lots of massages and treatments available but book ahead, don't expect to get a same day service.

Swimming outside in the depths of winter was nice, but the water is not hot, nor even warm. There are 4 indoor pools and 2 of these are the same temperature as outside but if you get to the other 2 pools then they are really warm and lovely.
Find some warmer areas outside is nice
The lillies flowering in December is amazing
The slime/algae on the structures is understandable but gross
