The tour guides were excellent! My husband and I felt welcomed into the life and culture of Budapest, as we "strolled" the streets of the city at evening time. The repartee of the two guides added humor and warmth to their commentary.
We learned a great deal about the ancient and modern history of the city. If only we could have been there in person, to taste the holiday treats and soak in the holiday ambiance, but we now have Budapest on our list of places to visit when travel becomes easier and safer again.

I enjoyed seeing parts of Budapest again, having been there (in person) several times since 1990, remembering the beautiful city and its friendly people. The tour guides were knowledgeable and had a good energy. They made the experience fun and it was almost like being there with them. Thanks!

Favorite part of experience for my wife and me: The explanations given by our guides Bálint and Sophia, of Hungary's centuries-long efforts to break away from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and other parts of the fascinating history of Hungary in general and of Budapest in particular.

Others had different favorite parts, including architectural and geographical details. This was a live stream tour for 90 family members and friends. Our guides were in Budapest; we were all over the world.

In addition to seeing beautiful buildings, I really enjoyed the history and the backstories about events. There were so many interesting tidbits I'd never heard before. The guides were wonderful and very well informed. This was the next best thing to being there!

Met our guide Andras in a communist era cafe which set the scene for a two hour light hearted but thorough immersion into the socialist world of post war Hungary.
Andras eluded to the social, economic ,environmental and political experience that for better or for worse was to dominate Hungary’s citizens in this controlling political scene.
We enjoyed going into the Police HQ and parliamentary quarter and the anecdotes which were balanced and informative.
I highly recommend Andras as a guide and the tour in general.

Thanks so much for reviewing the tour and the encouragement. Insight Cities is a network of expert historian guides and we all take a lot of joy in opening up our cities to travelers. It is wonderful to be touring our first local groups since the pandemic this week and we look forward to welcoming back travelers from overseas. Hope to see you in the future on Insight Cities tours in Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Berlin and the city we launch this year, Munich.

We had a great time on the Buda castle tour. Our guide, Tamas, was an excellent tour guide. With his knowledge, jokes, and energy, the tour was very interesting and easy to follow.

Like so many travelers, we feel the best way to get to know a place and its people is through the eyes of a local guide. Insight Cities fills that objective with aplomb. We booked two tours with Insight Cities, the City History tour with Andras (in combination with Taste Hungary), and the Jewish tour with Eszter. Bonita, the founder of Insight Cities, combined the highlights of both tours so that the itineraries would be complimentary but not duplicative. Andras, on day 2, was particularly accommodating, as he included sites on the Buda side not part of his original preparation while skirting those we had managed to catch on our own. Both guides were accomplished, pleasant, sensitive, and good-humored. We would recommend Insight Cities for Budapest as well as other destinations.

The description of the tour says it all "undivided attention". Our guide Balint was wonderful! We have traveled extensively and despite having spent quite a bit of time in Budapest, we wished we had signed up earlier. Balint very quickly determined our interests and customized our tour sharing places and information we found intriguing. Naturally, there are many tour companies to choose from, and I highly recommend booking a tour with people who are super well informed, educated and able to read people - been on many 'yawn' tours where the guide is all about impressing you with his/her knowledge whilst ignoring your interests. We canot wait to return and will use Insight City Tours anywhere they offer tours.

During this trip to Europe we took two tours with Insight Cities. One was the 'Art Nouveau and Cubism architecture' tour in Prague and the the other was 'Downtown Pest: The New Imperial Capital 1867 - 1914' tour in Budapest.
For both tours, both of the very learned guides kindly agreed to join us for lunch at cafes that they recommended (my treat) to give us a chance to discuss the tour and also give us the opportunity to get to know each other a bit before starting the tour.
Having true scholars organize and conduct such tours is a great concept which really added a special depth and created a uniquely special learning experience to these tours.
Also, being private tours, our sights and discussions were not limited to just the actual tour objectives but we could digress into other subjects and sights that were of interests to us. The guides for both of these tours never had any trouble at all answering any of our questions and in fact could provide fascinating details that we would have never known otherwise.
I highly recommend Insight Cities tours and I believe they offer these unique tours in many cities besides Prague and Budapest.

We took several walking tours, including one of Art Nouveau and one of Jewish Budapest. Both were led by guides of truly outstanding backgrounds, and both tours were marvelously interesting. We are history buffs, and both tours helped us to understand the complicated backgrounds of the areas we were walking through. The Are nouveau tour was gorgeous, of course, Budapest being the find=est city to display that art form. The Jewish tour was in-depth. All I can say is: Give yourself a major treat and take both of these tours.
