The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.

My wife works in the pharmaceutical industry, so we made a point of visiting pharmacy museums whenever we came across one. This museum was unique in that it featured pharmacies at different times in history. Great stop for a rainy afternoon.

This is a lovely little museum near Buda castle. It's only 3 rooms but there is a lot in those rooms that is incredibly interesting.

Something different to visit, its only a small museum, but the displays are good, well laid out and very interesting, how life has changed.

I visited this museum because it was recommended in the Lonely Planet Budapest guidebook but I spent all of 10 minutes in there. There are only 2 rooms and everything looks a bit dusty and forgotten. Part of my problem was that I don't speak Hungarian and all the explanations of exhibits were in Hungarian. There was a laminated card to take round with some English descriptions, but it was pretty token. I realise the language barrier is my problem, but even the Hungarian signs were not very thorough and the whole place seemed rather neglected. There's also no toilet which I think is a bad sign at a public museum.

I'm glad I didn't pay for this (freebie thanks to the Hungarian National Day) as it was an extremely small museum, albeit with a lot on display. Not particularly informative and most of the signs were in Hungarian.
Was in there maybe 15 minutes.

I always like to go to different museums in places. So this fit that bill. I was provided with an English sheet with an overview of what was in the cabinet. It'd been nice to know exactly what was in the cabinets like other museums do. So I knew vaguely what I was looking at.
Took me half an hour to look around as it's rather small. Very interesting place and cheap really , approx 800 huf.

I love small museums. They are usually run by people who really care about a specific topic, and they cater to people with that specific interest. This one is no exception.
If you've got an interest in history, pharmacy, medicine, anthropology or Hungarian culture, you will enjoy this. This is not a general audience museum. Admission was very cheap, and it only took us 20-30min to fully appreciate it.
Staff are creepy enough to be part of the exhibit - one of them told me no pictures because the Madonna on the wall was watching me. The other mumbled numbers and punched angrily on a calculator for the duration of our visit. Highly recommended for bookish types.

I made sure to find this museum before leaving Budapest!! Inexpensive and not a large museum, it is a preserved 'pharmacy' with displays dating back to the 1600's. Don't let 'pharmacy' fool you--this isn't modern pharmacy, but medicine and apothecary before prescriptions ruled the day. There are herbal remedies, ground mummy 'mumia' (it's fascinating to read up on how that began to be used as a medicine), tincture presses, essential oil percolaters, and other accoutrement of the era. There are gorgeous shelves, cabinets and bottles, paintings, and a preserved alchemical kitchen (which looks like it could come straight out of Hogwarts!) The museum has laminated guides in different languages, so when the person on site doesn't speak much English, you can still get ample information about the displays. I thought the guide was well thought out and easy to follow; despite a language barrier the guide that day was very friendly. If you are interested in herbal medicine, alchemy, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, etc--this will be an interesting museum for you to visit! You can see the entire display in about a half hour. I took lots of pictures as the displays are really interesting, beautifully painted examples of apothecary furniture.

This was one of my favorite stops in Budapest. Inexpensive admission--$2 US-- and some fascinating historical displays. Don't be fooled by the name of 'Pharmacy'--this pharmacy has been run since 1681, when pharmacists were doctors, herbalists, alchemists... The displays inside run from gorgeous hand-painted chests and medicine jars, Haban pottery and a VERY old tincture press to photos, paintings and an entire kitchen equipped for an alchemist. There's even a mummy head sitting on top of a box of 'mumia', the ground-up mummy that people (mistakenly) used as medicine in the 1700's and 1800's. Also interesting were the books--the oldest herbal Materia Medica in Hungarian, multiple other Materia Medica and medical books of the day in Latin, German and other languages. I'm an herbalist so I was very interested, taking over 50 pictures inside! The guide didn't speak fluent English when I was there, but they have laminated paper guides in multiple languages so you can walk your way through it. For someone interested in medicine, this combines well with the Semmelweis museum nearby. And for Harry Potter fans, and fans of magic, alchemy and the sort, this is an must-see.

Small museum in Buda near the Matthias Church. Museum isn't very big and showcases some old pharmaceutical supplies. The lady at reception was very knowledgeable about local history and had excellent English.
