About
Let's be honest. In Budapest there are way too many tourism options to sift through. How do you decide which one to take? Well, we like to think our options are a little different than the rest. We're a couple of local girls with local sentiments and a love for our city, so we decided to do bespoke tours of Budapest that we adore and the culture that we come from.

On the morning of our second day in beautiful Budapest, our world class tour guide Kinga met us in the lobby of the Marriott hotel and asked: “how can I create an amazing Budapest experience for you and your wife today?” After discussing a few options (this was our first trip to Hungary) she took us on a wonderful walking and public transit tour of both Buda and Pest...truly made us feel as if we were being guided by a personal friend around a city she is proud to live in. We saw lots of parks, city scapes, cafes, historic buildings, markets, the Jewish quarter, and learned our way around Budapest (very helpful for next few days of our self exploring). Most importantly we learned a lot about the history of this ancient city and what’s its like to live here. Highly recommend Budapest Locals tours (we conceded several options and am glad we selected them) and Kinga in particular. Thank you for an excellent day in Budapest!

Our first encounter with this amazing company was in 2017 prior to a river voyage. The "Budapest Locals" made it very easy to book our tour. The correspondence prior to our arrival was excellent. Anita answered all our questions and provided additional information when needed. Kinga was our tour guide during our visit. An amazing young lady just beaming with knowledge and a sense of adventure. She made our tour so interesting and fun we were sad to say good-bye at the end of the day. We can't say enough about this wonderful group of people. They truly take pride in their country and really care about their client's needs and wishes. They will help you plan an awesome tour of their city. Make them first on your list to contact when making plans to visit Budapest!!

I lucked out with this tour!
It was about 60 degrees and sunny outside in the middle of February!
I met my tour guide Andi and we began along the Danube. She and I wandered the Pest side of the capital; trekking to and from all the hotspots of yesteryear and present day.
She told me about Budapest’s past, dating back to the Magyars’ arrival. She was very knowledgeable: every statue I pointed to, she filled me in on their role in Hungary’s culture. This country has quite a unique place in the world—great for hot springs and vineyards, but also all sorts of invasions.
The architecture is spectacular! In 1896, this place was a boomtown, celebrating a 1000yrs of Hungarian civilization!
The strudel and tea at Elsö Pesti Rétesház were delicious!
And magic hour atop St. Stephen’s Basicila bequeathed a view unlike anything else in Budapest!

My husband and I truly enjoyed our tour with Petra!! We were impressed with her knowledge of Budapest and Hungary and learned a great deal. Petra was very accommodating too. We had already seen the Basilica but wanted to learn more about the Jewish quarter, so she adapted and took us there finishing with a gem of a recommendation to visit the oldest ruin bar in Budapest (Szimpla Kert). We had a wonderful afternoon with Petra and 100% recommend this tour!!

For us, this tour tops all private tours we have done in any city, and we have done many. What did it for us was the perfect combination of history and food. If you want to get to know a city fast and well, this is certainly the way to do it. Before our arrival, Anita was in frequent contact to ensure that she planned the perfect tour for us. She also gave us advice on trains to Vienna and booked the river cruise for us which saved us a lot of time queuing. Anita came to meet us at the hotel at 11am and we immediately felt at home in her company. She spoke to us about our itinerary then took us to the strudel house where we tasted an incredible selection of strudels - delicious! She also gave us a welcome gift of paprika which I will use to make goulash soup. We enjoyed the snack stops during the sightseeing which was a great opportunity to refuel and taste the local cuisine. Public transport was included in the price and the ticket that Anita bought allowed us to travel until 11am the next day. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the market where we ate even more. Anita, knowing that I like baking, bought me ground poppy seeds which are hard to find in the UK so that I can try making some of the delicious cakes at home. When we got home, she sent me a number of easy to follow recipes (she also works in a cookery school). Whilst in Budapest we did encounter problems with a certain taxi firm and Anita helped us tremendously, this was 2 days after the tour! I cannot thank Anita enough for making our visit to Budapest so special. We can't wait to return and will recommend Anita to our friends!

Amazing experience definitely worth it:
One of the best tours we have done and so much more convenient thats it’s private. Our guide Petra was friendly and informative and kept us entertained throughout the duration of the tour. 3 hours really does fly by and the tour includes some really amazing sights including St Stephen’s Basilica and the Parliament Building.
A stop off at the strudel house was a great way to both have a break as well as eating some delicious strudel (they also have lots of other sweet/savoury dishes on their menu) A great experience and also great value for money will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Budapest

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest. I would suggest to do it at the beginning of your holiday if possible.
For the tour:
The tour(we had the insiders Budapest package) involves visiting many of the important sights as well as many hidden gems that would otherwise be difficult to come across. The tour gives a really informative explanation of the history behind the places visited. It is also great to give you a good idea of the city and helps you decide what you want to see more off and how to move around the city.

For our guide (lovely Kinga)
Kinga is a truly exceptional guide, knowledgeable, fun and organized. She managed to cover many locations and provided really useful information on all the places visited but also helped us decide what to see next.
Kinga is also a very kind and caring person, that really went beyond her way to help us with an unexpected health issue and also made great recommendations for our wedding anniversary dinner which we would have in Budapest.

Definitely recommended
Many thanks to both Kinga and Anita

All the best
Nicholas

We were in Budapest in the beginning of September (awesome time to be in the city).

We got a private walking tour around Budapest and it exceeded our expectations by great distance and it was all thanks to our incredible guide, Barbi! She is so easy and fun to be around with and her knowledge of the city is just exceptional!

We do strongly recommend starting your trip with a Budapest Locals private tour like we did cause then you know exactly what you wanna do for the rest of your trip. Barbi gave us so many fun recommendations like restaurants, activities and beautiful sights to visit.

Barbi picked us up at our hotel in central Budapest and we walked straight to the train station were she showed us how to book a train ticket, that turned out to be a very useful skill indeed in the end. She showed us how the train and bus system works so we didn´t have to take a lot taxis for the rest of the trip.

After the tour we were in love with Budapest and can now recommend so many things for our friends travelling there and that´s again all thanks to Barbi. She gets 10 out of 5 stars! For everybody travelling to Budapest, a tour with Budapest Locals is a MUST.

I would highly recommend using Budapest locals. I picked hem because of the strong reviews and also because for the same price we were able to get a 5.5 hour private tour while other companies were group tours. This was the first time we did a food tour of a city and it was great. Bridget was our guide and we really enjoyed spending time with her. It was like walking around a new city with a friend. She was very personable and had was very knowledgeable about the city, it's history and of course the food!
She was flexible with our plans and while we ate strudels for breakfast (which were delicious) Bridget went over a rough idea of what she had planned for us. We actually had done quite a few of the things the previous day and she quickly made other suggestions to see where else we would want to go. The central market hall was great and we had a ton of different food to try, we couldn't even finish it all. Bridget did a great job explaining about the different types of cuisine and talking about the typical Hungarian recipes and ingredients. We had a great day exploring with her, and she gave us good reccamendations and tips on getting around the city and places to go as well. The follow up from Anita and the Budapest locals was great as well. She reached out to me while we were still in Budapest and offered to help us with anything if we needed it. She also followed up with a separate email with recipes of several Hungarian dishes as well. I would highly reccamend using Budapest locals and go as far to say it t was one of the best tours that I've done so far in all my travels. Bridget was a great guide and had a great blend of friendliness, warmth, professionalism and information.

Andi was lovely, very well versed in Hungary’s and Budapest history. The tour was so interesting and also much fun. We loved the stop for Coffee and Strudel!
Highly recommend her and her tour company.
