About
Visiting Hungarian wineries is a special experience. Winemakers take the time to personally welcome you at their tables (as opposed to pouring wine from behind a bar), pouring generous glasses of wine as they reveal the details of their wines, terroirs, and personal histories. At our Tasting Table we hope to recreate this quintessential Hungarian wine experience in the city. Come sit at our table and discover delicious Hungarian wines, and the stories behind them. During the day guests can pop in to buy wine (and drink glasses and flights along with cheese and charcuterie boards), under the guidance of our sommelier. We place a strong focus on educating our guests about Hungarian and Central European wine and food culture, and the evenings are reserved for our wine tasting classes, events, and private functions. Our wine is always paired with lots of insight into Hungarian winemaking. Located in the atmospheric cellar of a 19th-century palace, the Tasting Table is a hybrid wine shop / tasting room / event space / education center. As a shop, our focus is on Central European grape varietals and specialties. We have nearly 100 unique wines for sale, many of which are not widely available elsewhere. We buy our wine straight from the winemakers, from good people who make good wine, who we know and trust. Every wine we offer has a reason to be here-whether it is simply an outstanding wine or comes from a special terroir, or it tells an important story about Hungarian winemaking. Our goal is to introduce the special wines which are not always easy to find.

    A fantastic experience!
This was a fantastic experience. The Tasting Table was able to accommodate 36 of us on a reunion trip to Budapest. The chef added a few extras to the charcuterie and cheese boards to turn it into a light lunch, with dietary requirements catered for, and everything on the boards beautifully paired with all the wines we tasted. We were split into two groups but both Sommeliers were equally knowledgeable as well as entertaining and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A great introduction to Hungarian wine and we would recommend it highly.

    So much fun! 🍷
Booked this about an hour before it started and it did not disappoint! A friendly welcome and sat down at a table, you sit with others, which we didn’t mind at all, would have just been a bit better if given a little bit more space, chairs are very close. We had note taking pages and a helpful map for us to refer to throughout. I didn’t get the host’s name but he was well informed and interesting to listen to, as he told us about the wines. We tried a couple which surprised us too, which was good. Really well timed so enough time to drink, chat, eat and then some led sections too. A charcuterie board is served with the wines too, which was lovely, I’m a vegetarian, so just had the cheese, but there was also meat on there, which I was told was really good too. You get 10% off wines after in this shop across the road. Thank you for a fab couple of hours, we had loads of fun. 🍷 F:29 M:32

    Book in advance
Unfortunately we did not have time to participate in a tasting during our visit to Budapest, however we walked over without a booking to the shop, hoping to have a wine flight. However the shop is very small with limited seating. We were able to have a quick glass before we had to vacate. Staff knowledgeable and explained about the local wines. The wine we tried was excellent and keenly priced. Worth a visit but book in advance.

    Egészségedre!
What a treat! My partner and I love to explore wine regions all over the world, but didn't have time to actually go all over Hungary. But we found Taste Hungary and we are so happy we did! The sommelier was passionate (but not pretentious) sharing knowledge about his culture and the wine. There was ample local meats and cheeses, and most importantly, the wine was really delicious and complex. We will definitely be looking into doing a tour with Taste Hungary next time we are in Budapest.

A totally terrific tasting experience - the hosts were fabulous. Love love loved it.
What an amazing 90 minutes. I loved it all. Five superb wines to try - two white, one rose, one red and a sweet desert wine. Accompanied by a platter of meat and cheese. Our host was superb - very patient as I asked a lot of questions. He gave us great insight into the Hungarian wine regions, the wines, tasting notes and more. I could have stayed for hours (next time we'll do the evening tasting...) The hosts coped really well with a few unexpected late arrivals, but the process was very warm, welcoming, funny and sociable. It really helped when we went to restaurants or into shops to select wine as it gave us a grounding in grape varieties we were unfamiliar with. Brilliant.

Wine Table is a Must Do!
Gabor was a great guide through our flight of 9 wines! Not only did he know his wines, but he was personable and the conversation was lively! The deluxe tasting afforded a small group, so we had a great time meeting a mom and daughter in our group of four! Hungarian wines are amazing and well crafted!

    An incredible introduction to Budapest
We took a food walking tour of Budapest arranged by the Tasting Table. It was wonderful. Our guide, Angelina was so fun and incredibly knowledgeable. We love starting our trips with food walking tours and getting that immediate introduction to a new city through a local guide. We've done them all over the world. The food was delicious and we started the tour at the Tasting Table for wine and a local meat and cheese plate. A wonderful start. Highly recommend this tour.

Great overview of Hungarian wines, AND met new people from all over the world.
Easy to book on-line, and also get to shop in Budapest (short walk from metro.) Staff was welcoming, passionate when sharing expertise on Hungarian wines, and the charcuteries that went with the tastings were another chance to taste some Hungarian cheese/meats...also enough for a meal for us. We loved meeting new people at our table from different parts of the world. We felt the price was worth this event/visit. This was the 2-hour tasting and we were a bit tipsy by the time we left. Thank you!

Despite having worked in the wine trade in the UK, I was completely unaware of the range, quality and diversity of wines that Hungary had to offer. So, it was great to meet up in very authentic old basement/cellar with a small group of others to get a tutored tasting and virtual tour of the Hungarian wine landscape.
The two hosts/tutors were excellent and explained things at just the right level for a mixed group. We tasted 5 wines (2 red. 2 white and a Tokaji dessert wine) all accompanied by a selection of cold meats/salami/sausage and cheeses. The wines were introduced to us in a very clear and informative way with recommendations as to which cheese or meat complimented them the best.
My partner and I really enjoyed this little interlude from all the normal sight-seeing, and would heartily recommend it to others.

This was a Christmas present from our kids, and it's unlikely we would have booked otherwise however, so glad that we went. What an excellent experience. Top quality Hungarian wines with cheeses perfectly matched to accentuate the taste profiles of the wines. I had a cheese board due to my eating preferences, my wife had the full charcuterie board and both were delicious. The wine was eye-openingly good. The sommelier was so knowledgeable sharing stories about each wine, how it is produced and where it comes from. He l educated us on a pig with wool, like a sheep, that was the base for one of the sausages on the charcuterie board and told us his own journey from America to Hungary. We were never hurried and had an afternoon of fine wine, cheese and conversation. Wonderful experience.

Such a lovely experience. A great mix of people including our group of 4, a couple and two singles. All from around the world. The host allowed us to chat and get to know each other before giving a rich history of the wines and his own experiences in life and wine. Hungarian wine is amazing and I loved almost all of them. I’m not even a red wine fan but apart from one I drank them all. The small platters of cheese and pork were a fabulous accompaniment and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone.

Tasting Table is a "must" for wine geeks whilst being in Budapest. A couple of steep stairs leads you down to a nicely restored cellar, where owner Tomás and his team are waiting to give you a very educational and interesting tour through Hungary's vineyards. Sommelier Sebastián, born in Colombia, knows everything about the wines of his ancestors country Hungary and is happy to surprise you with discoveries from indigenous grape varieties you might have real problems to pronounce correctly... Everything is accompanied by boards of salami, kolbasz, local cheese or Mangalica ham. They offer group tastings at 15.00 and 18.00, but guests a free to pass by just for one or two glasses of good wine as well - everything 100 percent Hungaricum!

Really enjoyed the afternoon tasting with charcuterie board. Had 5 wines that were good quality and a larger than usual portion for a tasting. Charcuterie was the perfect afternoon snack to keep us going until dinner. Host was charming and our fellow guests made for a great afternoon. It was on the pricier side but felt worth it for a treat.

Thoroughly enjoyed an extensive education and delicious introduction to Hungarian wine. Tomas was incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and enthusiastic. Tasting included sparkling wine, three different dry white wines, three red wines, and a dessert wine. Also included a sampling of excellent local meats and cheeses. All the wines were available for purchase afterward at affordable prices. Highly recommended as a great way to spend an evening!!

Myself and my husband spent the afternoon at tasting tables doing the wine tasting and charcuterie experience. The venue is absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean. Our guide was lovely and so informative sharing lots of interesting facts about Hungarian wine and the history. He was happy to answer any questions. The wines were paired with meats cheeses pickled dips and breads which were all divine. The location is central and they have a shop opposite where you can make purchases afterwards. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Budapest.

What a fun evening. So much wine!

We sampled 9 wines from all over Hungary. A great space that held a large number of people. We were at a table with ten others but it still felt like you had your own group.

A charcuterie board and some bread to help you not get too drunk.

It was a great start to our Hungarian trip.

Fantastic experience with Niki, professional and with lot of knowledge. Wine, cheese and souce were so delicious. 14 of a group had a wonderful time, from different countries and ages. Amazing shop and service. It's lovely to get to know the cultures of other countries. The wines that were testing today were very good. Excellent selection from Hungary. Thanks Niki
