We were pub and bar hopping around this part of the city when we chanced upon this bar and what a great find.
Red Ruin Bar is a really good looking bar ,its got a communism style layout, great decor and furnishings, a cool looking serving bar, superb wall art and plenty of seating options spread throughout this bar, its just a great bar to unwind in.
We were here on a cold November night, we ordered beers from Dreher Brewery, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular bar.
A big fan of this famous Hungarian beer, its a golden light and hoppy lager style beer bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this bar, it was just so good being in such a lovely bar enjoying a quality brew and being in such a lovely city .
We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to Red Ruin Bar we had a great time.
Red Ruin Bar is easy to locate along Iranyi Utca.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday, 4pm till 4am.
Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

We were extorted in this bar. We bought 2 rounds of drinks, there were 4 of us. When bill was brought over we were asked to pay the equivalent of 240 euros for 8 beers. When in confrontation with staff about price they locked the doors and threatened us until we paid and left. Ruined our experience of Budapest. Please avoid this bar. Bad people.

Went for a quick drink as I had seen the bar online and looked like a fun gimmick. As we entered, the female staff member was then about to go for a cigarette and did not look happy to see us. As we ordered I said sorry as I could tell she was about to have a break. She said 'its okay but I have a reservation coming very soon'. I remarked that next time I wouldn't bother coming in to save her the trouble and she agreed. She was quite rude throughout the encounter - I wasn't sure if it was part of the gimmick or not, also the reservation never showed up. In the end we downed our weak cocktails and went next door which was a lot friendlier and cheaper!

Great wee cheap pub in Budapest with cool communist era decor. Don't get the bad reviews for this place. The beer and cocktails were excellent and as cheap as you'll get. The 2 bar staff we dealt with were sound. Especially the bald fella, with the beard and glasses. Spoke away to us about what Palinka to try. Music is mainly heavy rock/metal.

Great experience, and extremely friendly staff. Awesome vibe for metal fans, and prices that are cheaper than any competition. David was incredibly welcoming and made the night memorable and fun, I could and have easily spent an entire evening here. I will definitely come here any time I'm in Budapest.

Nice welcoming bar where you can actually order at the bar without table service!! Good atmosphere (heavy metal music but not deafening volume). Good choice of drinks including cocktails and an excellent selection of spirits. Decent prices. Friendly staff. What more could you want?! We’re gutted we found this bar towards the end of our trip.

Really nice bar! A huge varity of beer and a really nice bartender who was willing to spend time to find me a (2,3...) beer(s) I never tried before.

This is a quirky bar that would suit those looking for drinks on a budget. It’s fairly interesting inside and had a nice friendly atmosphere. The one thing that let this place down (I can even forgive the hard rock music) was the terrible smell of sewage coming from the toilets. God knows what it must smell like in summer as it was -4 degrees when we visited. They really need to sort the smell out - it’s disgusting!

Fun area to have some good food and drinks,
