After looking at the prices of the other ranges I thought I would give this place a go as it has such a nice website and we could taylor a package to suit us, transportation is included so this was a plus.
I have a shotgun license in the UK and thought it would be fun to take my sons to shoot some guns we can't shoot here.
After booking online I still had no communication from them after two days so I sent them a message via their site, I re listed the package info we wanted "Dictator" the preferred day and time and if we could get transportation to and from the venue....... still no feedback after a day, so after four days of one sided emailing I decided to use my personal email address and send another message so as to confirm my booking, time was now running very short, the email I received was as follows: "You can arrive to the shhoting range we are working!" very short and sweet, this still left me in the dark as to if anything was booked but time was now up and we were flying in the morning, I thought I might call them once we arrived.
After speaking to a local woman she agreed to help and she phoned the owner up on our behalf, he informed us he was away in Germany but we should make our way to the range but unfortunately he could not provide transportation. We caught a local taxi to the range from the center of town(Pest side) and this cost us 10,000 HUF the return taxi was 4000 HUF!!!, the first one drove around the countryside for quite some time riding his meter, a cautionary tale but that's not for this post.
Once we entered the range at the appointed time there was no one in sight apart from two burly guys with a group shooting, we wandered about and had a solo tour of the empty offices, bar, pole dancer podium and toilet facilities, we decided to wait in the bar area, after fifteen minutes a group of french tourists entered and a safety video was started, their young female tour guide asked us what we were doing there and I informed her that we had booked to shoot, she went a got an elderly gentleman who proceed to quiz us in Hungarian via the translator as to what we were doing there and if we had any email confirmation, I proceed to show him the " WE ARE SHHOTING" email that he clearly could not understand, after much head scratching on his behalf I mentioned the package "Dictator" a broad smile now appeared as he disappeared out of the bar, quite perplexing to say the least!
By this time we had missed the safety video so it's a good thing that we have shot before!
The french tourists were now informed that they had to go to "Shotgun" and we sat, still non the wiser in the bar, the two burly instructors entered and proceed to devour two large pizzas behind the jump barely giving us a second glance......... quite an unnerving and unwelcoming vibe, once they finished they walked past and hissed "let's go" we were herded in to the range and they proceeded to very quickly pass us hand guns to shoot, not that we were too fussed as we have shot before but I could see a novice being very intimidated by this, once we had shot the hand guns the AK was produced and we had a go, then the instructors wanted to sell us some bullet case bangles, a nice find for airport security in the UK! we waited for the final gun in our package the PPSH but this did not materialize instead we were informed that we needed to go to "Shotgun" not part of our package and something I do at home nearly for free! by this point I could not face anymore haggling or quizzing and decided to call it a day, upon exiting the range the elderly gent was waiting for us and informed us to "go to shotgun" I tried to explain that it was not part of our package but gave up and showed him the "comrade commander" picture on their site as it was pretty much what we had just done and pointed to the price, we paid and waited for him to order us a cab.
I hope that this was not a NORMAL day at the range for them as the owner was away, hopefully once he is back things are different.
All in all a very unforgettable experience but one I very much hope to forget!
