We just had a great fun at Cold War Park during our Armoured vehicle driving program. I thought that it will be only one vehicle to drive but on the site we saw 4x4 and 8x8 wheel droved ones (BTR60 and some Hungarian ones)T-55 tanks and other Russian war-machines just in a good condition it was amazing! The guys let us climb inside all those things even a MIG-21 Fighter jet.... of course they asked for a few more Euro for that fun but it was a once in a lifetime event so it worst it! So for all the Cold war and military junkies I can tell If you in Hungary don't miss out Cold War Park!!! After having a guided tour in the exhibition finally they took us out to the driving field with the 8 wheeled Russian BTR60 I drove it for app. 20 minutes 10 tons of armour and two engines with a lot of power I felt nothing can stop me! Thank you Cold War Park for the unforgettable Great Fun!

On a whim, I decided to make an appointment at the Cold War Park.

I had been on an Eastern European road trip and thought that a stop at the park would be an interesting experience at the tail-end of my trip. The owner of the company, Gabor, was extremely helpful and quite responsive when trying to coordinate and set everything up via email. He was also exceedingly polite, patient, and cooperative with my requests to make the experience as "realistic" as possible.

Gabor and I also had a chance to chat a bit after the session. He proved himself to be extremely articulate and knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics running the gamut from Cold War history to politics and current events. It was a sincere pleasure to chat with him.

If you are interested in experiencing a bit of the "Iron Curtain" in a fun and dynamic way, I highly advise you to set up an appointment, you won't regret.

We fancied visiting this place but found the trip advisor information and their website a bit conflicting. This is less of a museum, and more of a yard full of army vehicles. It's not staffed all the time so it's important you email or phone ahead. They ask for 48 hours notice but our concierge at the hotel rang and we went there and then. At the time it was 25 euro for a tour of the 'museum' or 45 if they came to budapest and pick us up. It's not advertised or sign posted and our taxi driver really struggled to find it. With hindsight we should have had them pick us up but we were in a hurry to get lots of things done that day. The tour itself round the yard was really good. Great English, very knowledagble and good sense of humour. You can sit in everything and play with everything not like a normal museum. On reaching the park it was clear they were hoping to up sell our museum visit with a drive of some of their army vehicles, and also the price did seem negotiable but (and this is the only reason it's a 4 star not 5 star rating) they only accept cash, and they are really in the middle of nowhere so we just didn't have access to more funds, even though they said there was an ATM nearby. So, if you like vehicles or army gear, this tour is for you but don't just try and turn up out of the blue and remember cash only !

Dear Ian, Thank you for a nice review, I hope you enjoyed the tour! As you mentioned right now booking a visit in advance is needed and also I work hard on a web-terminal solution so in the near future our visitor's will have the option to pay by credit card on our website. Till then... ONLY CASH Accepted! " Trust is good, but control is better! " Cold War Park Budapest

Being a student of history my entire life, one of the first places I went back in 1998 with my wife. What a cool place. Instead of destroying all the monuments and statues to Communism, they took them down and moved them out in the middle of nowhere. On a hillside in the Green Belt, Ta Da, all of the communist memorials. If you are a history buff, you should go see it. Soviet memorials to Russian Heroes who "Liberated" Budapest, to Hungarian politicians who murdered their own people, it is all there. I have not been there for a few years, but every time we have visitors from abroad, off we go.

Fantastic day in Budapest. Friendly staff and unique transfer (Russian made UAZ4x4) made it big time:) Our guide was really great and the new program we booked they just starting "MotorPaintball" is really exciting. We have been briefed very shortly a few minutes after arrival we were sitting again on a different Russian Military jeep off the road fully equipped with the coolest markers I ever saw like real ones! We had to shoot targets at different distances under the strict supervision of friendly professionals. This was the winning combination we could have for our budget to ride on a combat vehicle off-road with bumper's true plashes or mud and shooting experience as well! 100 rounds each but only two 20 round magazines so we had to load mags a few times as well and it was quite complicated shaking off-road.But fun and excitement.

The whole experience was pure Fun! Recommended for all!

Fantastic afternoon in Budapest.Very friendly staff and unique taxi(soviet made UAZ) made it charming as well :) Our guide Gabor was a real gentlemen and when it turned out the APC my wife was promised to drive is unavailable - he got us a free upgrade for a tank... Some costumer service that was! :-) I have noticed there was little to none briefing, however i need to stress that all the time you will be under strict supervision of friendly professionals that will NOT allow you to harm yourself or anyone else(even when this is your first time driving a tank). When it turned out there is a slight delay for the shooting range, our host Gabor made sure we are entertain ;-) Shooting range features a short safety video but for a civilian with 0 knowledge on subject it might be a bit challenging - again, we have been accompanied by a very friendly and professional supervisor who made sure the whole experience was pure fun! Last to know is despite the fact you will see words like "museum" or "exhibition" on trip advisor and official page - please do not expect London National Museum or some other poshy nonsense - shooting range, tank driving range and war machine exhibition are 3 different locations. Last one is basically a small yard next to a small wild airport with some epic soviet-made machinery for you to see, touch and take hundreds of photos - no boundaries, no "do not touch" exhibits. Just you and the equipment. Have fun people!

After looking at the prices of the other ranges I thought I would give this place a go as it has such a nice website and we could taylor a package to suit us, transportation is included so this was a plus.

I have a shotgun license in the UK and thought it would be fun to take my sons to shoot some guns we can't shoot here.

After booking online I still had no communication from them after two days so I sent them a message via their site, I re listed the package info we wanted "Dictator" the preferred day and time and if we could get transportation to and from the venue....... still no feedback after a day, so after four days of one sided emailing I decided to use my personal email address and send another message so as to confirm my booking, time was now running very short, the email I received was as follows: "You can arrive to the shhoting range we are working!" very short and sweet, this still left me in the dark as to if anything was booked but time was now up and we were flying in the morning, I thought I might call them once we arrived.

After speaking to a local woman she agreed to help and she phoned the owner up on our behalf, he informed us he was away in Germany but we should make our way to the range but unfortunately he could not provide transportation. We caught a local taxi to the range from the center of town(Pest side) and this cost us 10,000 HUF the return taxi was 4000 HUF!!!, the first one drove around the countryside for quite some time riding his meter, a cautionary tale but that's not for this post.

Once we entered the range at the appointed time there was no one in sight apart from two burly guys with a group shooting, we wandered about and had a solo tour of the empty offices, bar, pole dancer podium and toilet facilities, we decided to wait in the bar area, after fifteen minutes a group of french tourists entered and a safety video was started, their young female tour guide asked us what we were doing there and I informed her that we had booked to shoot, she went a got an elderly gentleman who proceed to quiz us in Hungarian via the translator as to what we were doing there and if we had any email confirmation, I proceed to show him the " WE ARE SHHOTING" email that he clearly could not understand, after much head scratching on his behalf I mentioned the package "Dictator" a broad smile now appeared as he disappeared out of the bar, quite perplexing to say the least!

By this time we had missed the safety video so it's a good thing that we have shot before!

The french tourists were now informed that they had to go to "Shotgun" and we sat, still non the wiser in the bar, the two burly instructors entered and proceed to devour two large pizzas behind the jump barely giving us a second glance......... quite an unnerving and unwelcoming vibe, once they finished they walked past and hissed "let's go" we were herded in to the range and they proceeded to very quickly pass us hand guns to shoot, not that we were too fussed as we have shot before but I could see a novice being very intimidated by this, once we had shot the hand guns the AK was produced and we had a go, then the instructors wanted to sell us some bullet case bangles, a nice find for airport security in the UK! we waited for the final gun in our package the PPSH but this did not materialize instead we were informed that we needed to go to "Shotgun" not part of our package and something I do at home nearly for free! by this point I could not face anymore haggling or quizzing and decided to call it a day, upon exiting the range the elderly gent was waiting for us and informed us to "go to shotgun" I tried to explain that it was not part of our package but gave up and showed him the "comrade commander" picture on their site as it was pretty much what we had just done and pointed to the price, we paid and waited for him to order us a cab.

I hope that this was not a NORMAL day at the range for them as the owner was away, hopefully once he is back things are different.

All in all a very unforgettable experience but one I very much hope to forget!

We got picked up from our hotel. And went to a airstrip were we could drive in a tank what a great experience we had big smiles on our faces driving it.
After the driving, we went to a shooting range and shot with 3 different pistols and an ak47 and a sks. When shooting you get so much adranalin. Next time we go to budapest or hungary we wil come back for more!

This was so much fun. Myself and 2 friends got to drive a tank, look at the exhibit of old tanks, trucks and equipment, and shot a bunch of guns. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something out there and fun to do while visiting Budapest. Can't wait to come back and do some more fun stuff in the summer!!! Great staff as well!!!!

We started off our trip to the site with an enjoyable run in an ex-military Mercedes G-Wagen, complete with camo paint job and were then given the opportunity to have a look around the yard at the all of the other vehicles parked there. The BTR-80 which we had originally booked was then prepared for us and we were allowed to drive it round the site at full speed under professional instruction. This place is easily one of the best attractions in Budapest and is well worth a visit.
