Our workshop was founded in 1957. We produce high quality comforters and pillows filled with the best Hungarian goosedown. Visitors can view and take part in the traditional manufacturing process, fill pillows themselves and buy the resulting products.

My wife and I were looking for a comforter and bedding for our new home. I consider ourselves very lucky to have come across this family owned business right in the center of Budapest.
We couldn’t have been more pleased with our experience. The quality of materials and the craftsmanship was second to none.
The owner was very friendly and professional he and his lovely family took the time to educate my wife and I on the process of how each product was made and quality of materials at each price point. We were able to make an informed decision based on our budget. Although it was a bit more expensive we chose the luxury quality for the duvet and sheet sets. It was the best decision I made although all the products were of terrific qualify you can definitely feel the difference at each level.
The first night on our new duvet and was like sleeping on a cloud. I couldn’t have been happier with this purchase. I recommend all my friends at home in the United States to use this company you definitely won’t be disappointed. They ship their products worldwide, the extra expense is definitely worth it.

Because we loved their pillows and our experience at this modest store, we ordered additional products by email and asked our friend who happen to be in Budapest to pick them up.
They were very patient with us. Although we took 4 months to pick up the goods, we had pleasant and clear communication and pick up experience... we cannot ask for more delight than this.
Besides the pillows, their duvet and bamboo sheets are of exceptional quality. We discovered another level of comfort in our bedroom.
👉🏻We highly recommend this store, service and products to anyone who is interested in high quality duvet, pillows, sheets and human-centered service.
We hope to visit the store again. We support this business thrive for another 300 years 🙌🏻!

From the moment I walked in to Tomasz family business I felt welcomed. A unique and memorable experience, seeing the down and touching it, truely exceptional. Beautifully, handmade duvets that are so light they can fit in your hand luggage (my only concern prior to buying them, was how would I get them home). Tomasz had the answer, vacuum packed bag, that fit in my Ryan Air backpack.
Well worth the money for these all natural, light, and extremely warm down duvet. Thank you

This is what happened - you be the judge.
I was expecting to travel to Budapest and, having read all the excellent reviews of Elfenbein, made contact with Tamas - and he is charming indeed.
In Budapest I once again contacted Tamas to proceed with the order. He said he could deliver a quilt and 2 pillows to my hotel as requested, but asked me to leave almost 700 euro (AUD $1120) IN CASH at the front desk for payment on delivery.
When I requested payment by credit card the price increased.
I make no comment. Make of this what you will.

I'm really sorry that we did not do business, and we can not meet personally while you were here in Budapest.
I think this was a misunderstanding between us.
In our chat I wrote to you, that you can pay with your credit card in our workshop (unfortunately our POS terminal is not mobile), and I mentioned that our webshop prices are not contains the VAT, so you can only see the VAT rate (depends on your country) at the end of checkout. So that was the price increase you mentioned that you have to pay the Hungarian tax (27%) if you purchase locally.
Because of the terrible Hungarian VAT refund policy I offered free shipping to Australia, and in this case you do not have to pay the 27% Tax because the product leaves the EU.
I still stand by the offer and I will gladly send your order to Australia for 600 EUR which was my original discounted offer for you.

Hi, I am a light sleeper so a quality pillow is a must for me. As a child, I used to love the pillows hand-made by my grandmother in Transylvania and as an adult I have been looking for them since.
When I stepped inside the shop, to be greated by the very team Tamas and father, I realised I was to find answers to all my questions.
I explained to Tamas that I was looking for a firm pillow that would last me a long time, that I have grown dissapointed by expensive pillows that loose their umpf in a year and that my holly grail was to find the pillows of my grandma.
He has shown me the vaious posibilities and explained the differences between feathers, a mix of feathers and down or pure down. And than came the test: I felt the various pillows and realised that the feathers one felt exactly like the ones in my childhood!
He explained that the feathers are selected and the stubby ends cut and that way the filling lasts for years compared with the more expensive down pillows which are great for some months before flattening out. It is suprisingly pleasant too. He made the pillows on the spot, filled them with as much filling as I wanted: he made me the greatest pillows!
So for excellent service, amazing products and answers to all your questions regarding bedding this is the man and this is the place: Tamas from Elfenbein.

On a recommendation we stopped into Elfenbein for a unique souvenir! We had king size pillows custom made to our desired comfort right before our very eyes. This family run business is simply amazing. Our pillows were stuffed, stitched up, vacuum sealed and shipped that day and arrived to our home in the US a few days later.
Couldn’t be happier.

Well.... what an amazing place.
It was a bit of a weird place to find, a strange doorway nestled between a normal row of shops. A buzzer to get in, and a very old and well used wooden stairway down into a cellar. I know it sounds weird, but it had a smell of tradition and quality about it. You instantly understood the history of the place.
The family who run this company are truly passionate about what they produce, and their family history... they spent ages with me, explaining the different downs, the benefits of each pillow construction and they even got me to lay my head on them to assess the perfect pillow for me. They then made my perfect Hungarian goose down pillow! right then and there, they even let me film the whole process. I ended up getting pillows for the whole family and even some for friends, as they were also very well priced.
You cannot come to Budapest without visiting here, they have a wall of photos of all the film stars and famous people who visit and buy from them.
They are so humble and so friendly. I left feeling I had found friends who I could contact whenever I need bedding, and I know they will understand EXACTLY what I want. They will even ship it free to my home in the UK.
Thank you so much for such a great experience.

We recently were in Budapest for the first time. We had read about the wonderful pillows from Elfenbein. We walked from our hotel to find this place. The experience was awesome! Tamas, the owner, has such pride in his business. He took the time to let us try different pillows and walked us through the various options. We bought 3 pillows that day and then called back to order 2 more. Since they are all goose down and/or feathers, there is no odor and due to their cleaning technique, they are hypoallergenic!! Since we were several weeks from returning home, Tamas said he would ship them so they would arrive after we were back. The day after we returned, our pillows arrived. We let them expand for a couple of days and have been enjoying them ever since!! Will certainly buy again!!

We visited Elfenbein in October 2021 and received our goose down duvet a couple of weeks later. It was an amazing experience to visit the workshop, to meet Tamás and his family and see the products being made by hand in a traditional way. Our duvet is so light and beautifully warm. It is a top quality product and at a very good price.

Before our trip to Budapest Hungary in April I did a little research of what to purchase. I decided a few goose down pillows would be great. After a little more research I learned that most of the down pillows available in the US are from China. That little known fact made me determined to come home with authentic Hungarian goose down pillows. My research did not result in many sources however I came across a very favorable review of Elfenbein but it was a few years old. Not sure if they were still in business we asked the concierge who gave us an address and off we went!
At first we could not find the shop but then found a sign that said "Handmade Quilt and Pillow"
Upon opening the door I immediately knew is was the right place. This place is old and original.
The wooden stairs are steep and creak. The workshop is in a basement. This is the real deal.
Tamas and his uncle are friendly, helpful and fluent in English! Everything is made to order and you can decide what quality and size you would like. So we were thinking to get a few pillows for me and my husband and our kids but ended up purchasing 20 pillows in addition to 8 comforters!!
