We only looked around,at the unique building.A very interesting architecture that combines some nice sculptures . I really liked the overall unusual yellowish color of the building.

Apart from being an operating cinema this also the place which was established as the HQ for the Hungarian Revolutionaries during the uprising of 1956. There are many many memorials on the walls of the cinema to attest to this and a moving statue of a teenage revolutionary. For those with knowledge of the uprising this area has great significance as it was here where the Corvin Cinema and the Killian Barracks faced the main route into Budapest that the Battle of Corvin Passage took place between November 5th - 9th 1956 when 4000 militia fought against the Soviets and their tanks destroying 12 of them. The Metro 3 line's Corvin negyed station is just where the cinema is

.The rebuilt, modernized Corvin Cinema is more comfortable than the old one has been, but beauty has a price. The early cinema was standing in Corvin Alley, and the new one is also standing there – where the blood of the students who fought against the Soviets in 1956 soaked the stones. Now a statue and a board keep their memories, but the mood of the place is already different.
When I go there, I think of a friend who fought with his students, and not a cinema experience. I'm not the only one feeling on that way. Corvin became a symbol of the freedom-fight of Budapest.
During the 1995 reconstruction, the outer form was preserved. Now six auditoriums receive 1,500 spectators and into the largest the 500-seat room; the biggest available 140m2 screen was then placed. The balconies and the mirrored ceiling, showing the space more spacious.
The nearby Corvin Promenade and Corvin Plage are an extra attraction for location, that has excellent public transport.

Located in the front of corvin plaza is this building, (cinema), that has and interesting past. back in the mid 50’s this area was the scene of bitter street fighting during the uprising against soviet oppression. At the front of the cinema, is a statue of a rifle bearing boy, honouring those youths, who fought for freedom against soviet tanks.

We were there in 2015 and it was better. Corbin Plaza has changed. Most places/businesses are closed. The only plCe that attracts people is Corvin shopping mall and the movie theater. Hope by next time we visit the place all little food places and restaurants will be back in business.

It is hard to believe that this ornate cinema building once played a crucial role in the 1956 revolution. I visited the location in the days leading up to the 23rd October anniversary and, day by day, it was very moving to see new memorials, candles and flags placed by the statues and plaques. Well worth a visit to the area for reflection and to explore the area.

We were just outside the building, but I wanted to see it anyway, because of its historical background in 1956. There is a statue with a kid for the memory of those young people who fought died here, in the last stand of the 1956 soviet attack.
