The area

Address
Neighborhood: Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.

    Great family baths
Great baths to visit with a family (15 and 11 year olds). Went on a weekday so it wasn't too busy and we all got sunbeds. Staff were all nice and chilled. You only need a swim cap for the lengths pool. We didn't have flip flops (slippers) and no one questioned it. Definitely recommend.

    Family friendly!
Went here with my husband and 9 and 11 year old boys. Spent about 3 hours here, but would have spent more if the wave pool was working. It is drained and doesn’t look like it’ll be working any time soon (for reference we went on June 25, 2024). The slides are intense, but fun. For reference, my tall for his age 9 year old barely met the height requirement. The indoor pools are warm, but they strictly enforce the age requirement (I think it’s 14, but could be wrong). We didn’t have swim caps and the only thing we couldn’t use was the lap pool. We didn’t bring towels either. We had planned on buying them there, but couldn’t see where to do it. It wasn’t a problem as we dried off quickly after getting out of the water and there are swimsuit drying machines in the locker room. Tip: You don’t need to pay for a changing cabin. There are plenty of free changing rooms near the toilets and lockers. Tip: Use the lockers! They’re free and easy to use. Just tap your entrance band and it’ll lock and unlock the lockers. My husband kept his credit cards in his board shorts pocket and they came out on the slide despite the Velcro closure.

A must do, particularly when traveling with kids.
What a wonderful and magical place! We are traveling with our 8 year old son, and this was the perfect way to spend a day with him. From the wonderful Bauhaus architecture of the main building to the spectacular food and snacks available, to the soothing waters, this is a bath not to be missed. We liked it so much we went back two days in a row!

    Great place in hot weather
Good value for money but can’t really compare to the thermal baths in Budapest as these aren’t architecturally the same. However the pools are warm so I guess thermal. Clean in changing area and around pools. Not enough sun beds but plenty of grassy areas. Tiles in pools are filthy but water is very clean. Lots of cafes and bars Easy to get to from central Budapest we got team from heroes square and then changed to 26 bus that goes right to the park. 26 bus starts at Nuyati station

A fantastic day out - well worth the money
We booked online and payed about £10 each, and over all it was well worth the money. We arrived on the bus (26) which stops right outside the pools and were let in quickly after showing our online booking. We were given wristbands which we could use to secure our belongings in a locker, which worked very well - this was included in the price. The changing rooms we used were very clean and so were the showers and toilets. The pools were impressive: we went in all of them, and also went on three of the four slides offered. It was busy when we went, but it did not feel over crowded at all, due to the extensive grassy areas (including lots of shady areas) surrounding the pool. Additionally, the food there was cheaper than we thought it might be. Overall it was a great experience and we stayed until it closed after getting there at about 11am.

Nice and clean and plenty of space to lay your towel out
We chose to walk St Margaret’s island but u can get a free shuttle. We walked past the sign as the English advert was facing away from us as we walked on to island. You can find it at the start of the cycle and golf buggy hire before you get to the fountain. Think it runs every half hour. There is a number 26 bus that seemed to go by constantly too. The walk isn’t too bad and there’s a cafe half way. Trees for shelter from the sun, pretty place. The zoo is on the island too. The strand itself is large and plenty of room to spread out your towel. We didn’t go in water but everyone who did seemed to be having a great time. Again trees for shade, cafes, changing rooms Go on to website for full details. I bought tickets online via their website. Was hardly anyone queuing when we got there. Great for sunbathing but limited sunbeds

    Great day out for families
Really brilliant day out at the Palatinus baths on our recent Budapest mini break. We walked from the bus stop on the City Sightseeing red bus tour - took quite a bit of time when it was so hot - would advise hopping on a bus that goes right up onto island if particularly hot day. We had booked online. The staff were helpful and advised us where to go to get wrist bands that activate the lockers. No coins needed. Locker/changing area was very clean and tidy. There were plenty of pools - we stayed for about 4 hours. There is a children’s pool, thermal pool for adults, thermal pool for kids (not quite so hot), wave pool (they advise via tannoy when it will be turned on), an activities pool with a lazy river and fountains and finally an area with 4 water slides. There was a proper swimming pool for lane swimmers that you needed to wear a cap for but we did t use that. There were a range of eating places alongside the pools - food was good enough - pasta/pizza/burgers etc. There were a couple of ice cream places too. There are some sun loungers - we did t use them, preferring to sit in towels on the grass - there were a lot of people there but it did not feel crowded because the pools are massive and the grounds large too. There are showers for when you come out and free hairdryers in changing rooms. All in all we had a great day - lovely way to break up a city break for the kids when they get a bit tired of the sightseeing. The rest of Margaret island lovely too, lots of trees, fountains, can hire bikes and golf buggies.

    Relaxing
There are number of pools. From proper swimming lanes to thermal baths. We liked relaxing in the baths that were 30+ degrees in heat. We got there late morning and there were no sunbeds or lockers left which was a shame as it meant someone had to stay with our valuables so we could not all go in the pools together. Plenty of places to eat and drink and prices were probably what you'd expect for a water park. Overall, a nice day and it was good to relax after walking miles exploring Budapest fir a few days earlier.

    We enjoyed it!
Amazing experience for the whole family!!! Warm water to relax and slides to play!!! The security boys at the entrance of the slides did not always check the kids’ heights,so anyone could enter if they were not watching…. The whole area was really clean and the price was low (48€ for family with 3 kids)

Open air thermal baths with kid-friendly amenities and environment
Everything you could ask for from a thermal-bath experience that is also family (kid) friendly. Looking for therapeutic soaks? They've got it. They also have four great water slides and a wave pool. My 13 year old was in heaven, while I had a soak in the 32 C pool. Great facility that is well looked after and clean. And it was about half the cost of the fancier, more famous places in town. Also, being in a pool on an island in the middle of the Danube River was pretty special. We would go back again, for sure.

Was good for a hot day and it’s a huge place but the indoor pools smell really off and unclean. The guy making cocktails in the roof top bar was so so lovely and made unreal drinks for 3£ definitely recommend. It feels very very outdated though and half of the pools including the slides and waves pools were closed. One of the girls on the front desk was very nice and welcoming. Very relaxed vibe about this place staff turn a blind eye to bringing drinks in the pool, not wearing sliders etc. To be honest it wouldn’t be worth the full price tickets at the moment but if your a broke student on the last day of your holiday needing a wee pick me up I would recommend, wouldn’t go again though. Rudas baths are so so much better.

We visited in March 2024 and it was half closed. Of the outdoor pools, only the thermal pool was open but it was lovely. Inside there were a few more baths of different temperatures and a couple of jets. Palatinus is cheaper than the other thermal baths so it's a good budget option. It has a nice setting in the Magrit island park. We visited Szechenyi, Rudas and Veli Bej and preferred them all to palatinus. In addition, the baths are very unfriendly for people with disabilities. There are lifts but they individually only go to certain floors so we found it impossible not to use the stairs despite trying! Also when we arrived there was a big no entry sign at the way in which seems rather strange! We almost gave up because we thought it was closed. It's probably more fun in summer when I presume more of it will be open. It was as though it was asleep for the winter and hadn't realised it was spring!

Just can't understand any poor review. The baths are very cheap if you're going for the day. Me, my wife and little girl who was free cost around £15. They have loads of outdoor pools, the kids areas are fantastic and shallow and safe enough. We couldn't get my daughter out. There's tonnes of snack bars selling street food, burgers, langos, beers, cocktails, ice cream, even accessories and many more at prices you'd pay on the streets.

The indoor area is also great, steam room, hot sauna, aroma sauna, cold and hot plunge, thermal pool and all very clean. Loads of free lockers, large changing rooms, lifts, everything! Even walking round the complex is nice.

Pools are quite good, water was nicely warm as is usual in thermal pools. Line for the slides was too long, water in them cold. There were too many people but that is no wonder in July and hot weather.
Bad situation happened to us by trying to buy drinks and food. After waiting about 15 minutes in line we were told to pay only with credit card. I didnt notice a sign saying payment in cash is not possible. We left with two thirsty and hungry children right away.
Terrible experience for us.

Spent the day with the family at Palatinus Strand baths on Margaret Island Budapest and had a fantastic day.

Margaret Island is a beautiful place to visit and the baths are the icing on the cake.

The baths offer changing facilities, lockers and a variety of indoor and outdoor pools including a wave pool, water slides, swimming pool, activity pool, children’s pool’ thermal pools and main relaxation pool.

Lots of sun loungers around the ‘beach’ area and all for the price of less than £7pp for the entire day - unbelievable!!!

Booked online on their own website which has an English version so booking was easy.

Food and drink was readily available, good choice and good price but you can also bring in your own food/snacks and drinks if that suits your family or your budget.

Card payment only but can load cash onto a payment card at reception which can be topped up throughout the day and any balance left will be refunded prior to leaving.

I have travelled to many places in Europe and further afield and never found anything that was better value for money and in such a beautiful setting in the park (which is free) where you can stay into the evening and have a drink, food and enjoy the entertainment on offer

Myself and my friend visited here this week and we were grateful to have found somewhere like this as the sun exceed 40 degrees on most days, it was very cheap and we got to use our student cards for discount the grounds surrounding are beautiful. There are lots of food places to choose from and reasonably priced. There is probably about 7 pools doted around and a small water park, however they are very dirty and lots of stagnant water and thick black slime which you will find floating about so this was very off putting. Not sure what the cleaning regime of the pools are but as I say the grounds are lovely and people didn’t seem that bothered by the dirty water.

Definitely the most fun and kid friendly of the thermal baths. Outside baths were great and clean. The slides were a lot of fun as was the wave pool. Good selection of food on site, could easily spend the whole day. Inside baths were limited - quite small and only one sauna was open but didn’t affect our visit

As a returning visitor to Budapest and travel writer for Girltakesmundo .com, I’ve visited many of the iconic thermal spas in the city. If you are looking for a more local family friendly thermal spa then Palatinus is a great option for you. Less architecturally beautiful than many of the others such as Gellert and Lukacs but comes with a wave pool, multiple food vendors (accepting only credit cards) and set in the pretty Margaret island.
