We were recommended to visit here by dome friends who had previously been. Really enjoyed the day lots to see however we couldn't find the bat cave or bears😕. Great for kids too as the have a petting area. Price worked out at around £14 for both of us and food and drink was reasonably priced.

I applaud what they are trying to do. They have some lovely species and some spectacular grounds however... I was sad to see hippos, elephants, giraffes all crammed into small spaces. They were in what looked like old style Victorian buildings (beautiful but not suitable) Their bear looked like it was stressed and it had no vegetation to speak of just a pool (with a ball to make it look fun) and a rocky bit. Their lions and tigers looked thoroughly bored and lifeless (their paddock was not nearly big enough) Now, I'm not one of those people who goes to a zoo and moans about the animals 'not doing anything' I understand that they are not performing animals however lots looked sad, stressed and with some repetitive behaviours anyone could recognise stress signs. I am torn though as although some enclosures were unsuitable some were lovely. The ibis/vulture enclosure was outstanding and there were a few small mammals and bird enclosures that were lovely. The grounds were lovely and you could see they were really trying to educate people about the environment as a whole. I'm totally mixed. If I came to Budapest again I would go, mostly to see if there had been improvements however I would love to see some of the larger animals with more space (terribly difficult to do I imagine in a city zoo where space is at a premium) and some enclosures with more greenery. Long and short of it, it's worth a visit BUT don't go expecting large enclosures and happy happy looking animals.

On a recent visit to Budapest, my wife and I visited the Zoo. The price to get in was a reasonable 8 Euros each. The zoo is fairly well stocked with all types of animals, but we felt that some of the compounds were a bit small for the larger animals (lions, tiger, elephants etc.).
Finding your way around the zoo from the information on the brochure with map was a bit difficult as the numbers for each attraction shown on the brochure was not posted as you walk round the pathways. Also, when we asked some of the people who worked at vendor kiosks they were unsure of which direction to take to find these attractions.
There are lots of places dotted around where you can get something to eat and drink at reasonable prices.
