I live in Budapest and, in my opinion, this is the best market in the city. Mostly local produce and products, nicely displayed, bright and airy ambience. This market has everything: meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, fruit, clothing, A couple of Asian Discount stores, take-away food, local buffet. It's off the tourist grid so has a much more local feel and is not nearly as crowded (or expensive) as Central Market.

This is one of the best local markets in Budapest. It has been around for (not in its current form) for a long-long time. You can get fresh quality food for a reasonable price. (Some of the vendors may not give you the correct change back, especially when it is obvious you are not a "local". )

If you're not really into tacky tourist souvenirs and inflated prices, this is the place to visit. It's where the locals shop for their everyday food, drinks and baked items, and is much less touristy than the Great Market Hall in the city centre.

On the ground floor there is every conceivable type of fresh produce stall, plus meat, poultry, sausages etc., and bakeries selling all manner of breads and pastries.

The upper floor has a wide variety of household goods, a couple of cafes and bars, and a modern post office (we found this really handy when we realised we had to send something to the UK). Very few of the stallholders speak any English, but you'll get by!

The Lehel Ter metro station (Blue line 3) is below the market, and there are ticket machines and stairs or escalators at either end of the building down to the platforms. There are only two platforms so you won't get lost! If you're staying in the city centre and want to sample life as the locals live it, just go to Deak Ferenc Ter station in the centre of the city, take line 3, and Lehel Ter is the third stop in the direction of Ujpest-Kozpont, i.e. the opposite direction to the airport - it takes less than 5 minutes.

Personally I like visiting supermarkets and markets when in a different country.

The market is just that a market, it has not got any tourist frills. I loved seeing the things that the locals buy,
Could have come back with my cabin bag full of meats and pickles

The map location is wrong on the tripadvisor app its just by the Lehel Ter terminus

Since a live nearby I always go to manage the shopping at Lehel Market Hall. I know where to buy the best quality meat/vegetables or anything else but generally the whole market is a good place to buy foods anyway. I more and less know all sellers around and most of them are pretty nice and hospitable. I can recommend to have a cafe at first floor Coffee Shop where you not only can have a rest along with a great coffee but buy some excellent quality coffee beans also. The chicken fast food shop also very popular by making delicious sandwiches.

Great choice if you live nearby. All sorts of veggies and fruits, pastry (please try the marzipan bun you won't regret it), meat fish etc etc. Bio food store on the 1st floor. Bio cosmetics on the 2nd. Coffee shop on the 2nd floor as well as the lady selling all sorts of goods made of lavander (oil is very good). Prices are cheap comparing to the rest of the city and the rest of Europe too.

For almost a decade, this is the place where they do best schnitzel from chicken. On the first floor, Csirke-Fogó crumbs each and every part a chicken has to offer as well as mushrooms, vegetables. Situated on end of the hall which is near to bulcsú street.
Another place you need to try is the Szépvölgyi rétes stand on the ground floor, near the entrance from Vaci street approximately at the middle of the hall, where you get one of the best strudels in the city, in my opinion. Parking lot is for free for 1.5 hrs from Sun-Tue, one hour from Wed - Sat.

Lehel Market is 3 stops on the M-3 from central Budapest. Unlike the Central Market, this market is mainly used by locals. Almost none of the merchants speak a language other vthan their own. Prices are much lower than in the center of Budapest. Lots of bakeries, butchers and produce vendors. Truly gives you the flavor of the local culture.

A must visit to this amazing market. The ground floor was fresh meats, fruit and veg, nuts, peppers & Saffron. Eat here for typical Hungarian food

Right in front of the metro line 3, stopping at lehel ter, you will find Lehel market hall and it's many vendors. They might not speak English but the prices and the assortment of food is amazing. If you like this sort of thing - go there and be astonished and not ripped off.
