Where they make Unicum
Feb 2020
This was an unexpectedly enjoyable visit to the distillery where they still make Unicum. The tour comprises watching a film about the Zwack family, seeing the huge storage barrels, wandering around a nicely displayed museum and of course a couple of tastes of Unicum. Our guide was the doppelgänger of British comedian Joe Lycett. You can catch Tram 2 from the centre of Pest direct to the distillery.

How is it made?
Sep 2019
Do you enjoy learning how things are made? Do you enjoy a bit of history? Do you enjoy a bit of nostalgia? Then this fairly short tour is for you. And they give samples! Not a tour for kids.

We love Unicum
Sep 2019
This is not our first visit to Budapest, and we decided to go and tour this museum, we always bring back with us an Unicum bottle and usually the plum one, but lately we really fell in love with their new flavor which is basically some Unicum aged in Tokay drums, fantastic, anyway if you are in Budapest go and check out this museum 1 hour well spend and taste it, it is very smooth.....lovely smooth.

Hungarian unique place
Sep 2019
I visited Zwack Visitor's Centre in September in 2019 with my collegues from Hungary and from abroad too. We had a great 2 hours of visiting the three-storied exhibition with a short documentary film about the Zwack family and firm, and many objects and documents, photos about the famous Hungarian "medicinal liqueur", Zwack Unicum. In the distillatory we had the chance to taste 3 types of Unicums - they were extraordinary, especially the one with plum. The guide was very friendly, he told us interesting stories. After it we had dinner in the Centre's restaurant with Hungarian specialities, all of them was really tasty and good.
It was an interesting trip for me as a Hungarian citizen as well too; visit and see a family firm like this, how they rised, survived and succeed through the decades of history.

Interesting tour and history of local beverage
Oct 2019
Tour involved historical artifacts and history of the beverage Unicum and their other beverages. Recipe is secret - only family knows . Sampled Unicum and toured the distilling process. Worth a visit if you are in Budapest

Great History
Oct 2019 • Couples
After becoming acquainted with Unicom on our last visit to Budapest I was excited to see a tour of the distillery was available. I know it is sort of a quirky thing, but I sure enjoyed it.
I viewed the movie “Sunshine” before our last visit and was pleased to see the “real”
history of the Zwack family presented in a short movie. Then we went to the distillery and had two samples of this herbal liquor. I think it’s medicinal properties helped cure my husbands cold! The museum was quite interesting too. The shop at the end of the tour seemed to have very reasonable prices on their product as compared to various shops I have been to previously.

Not your average distillery tour
Sep 2019
Our family of four enjoyed the tour. Like other reviewers, the movie was more like a commercial as much a history of the zwack family. Two prices of tours were available, one a bit more so you can have one additional tasting of the Reserve. Prices and tour times not published well and are a bit confusing. Still the museum itself is well done, lots of artifacts and history in being able to survive WWII and both German Nazi and Russian occupations. Unicum is a big part of Hungarian culture and history, it's worth a visit.

Worth visiting
Aug 2019 • Friends
Bought tickets on the door for around £7 each which offered a 20 minute video on the history of Unicum and then an opportunity to learn about the spices and process involved in making the spirit with a very knowledge able guide. This price also included the tasting of two types of Unicum. Finally this provided access to the museum with audio commentary at your own pace. We spent about an hour and quarter on the whole visit however could have extended time in the museum if we wanted to. There is also a gift shop with a range of alcohols to purchase after the tour.

History learned through a family tale
Jun 2019 • Solo
Ever since I tasted my first Unicum and saw the movie "Sunshine," I've been wanting to find out whether what I learned about the drink, the family and Hungarian history from the movie are accurate. After I visited this place, I think the story is essentially correct, although the film was only loosely based on the saga of the Swack family. It's much more fun to learn history through personal stories, and this one is fascinating. I didn't know that Peter Zwack, the previous CEO, was the first Hungarian ambassador to the U.S. after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Be careful about the tasting of Unicum at the end of the tour. It's a strong stuff!
