Upon a recommendation from a friend we reached out to Context to arrange a group tour for 11 people. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, organized, and responsive. They assigned us an awesome guide who was knowledgeable and passionate about Budapest, architecture, and history. She was...More

This walking tour was an excellent way to get to know an area of Budapest in detail, in three hours. Our docent (guide) Greta was truly brilliant: friendly, articulate, funny, and highly knowledgeable about the history, culture, and architecture of the area. Also gave very...More

We took 4 tours with Context guides who spoke English well and demonstrated great knowledge about their topics. All but one were enthusiastic and eager to share, answer questions and to take us “off the beaten track “ a little bit. Good decision on our...More

The tour we took - which ended up being just my husband and me - was the Contemporary Hungary tour which focused on both the current political situation and the history that led to it. Many others have already raved about our guide Kata, who...More

Really great guided tour of the Jewish neighborhood and formal ghetto of Budapest. The tours can be done in groups, but we prefer doing them as private tours. The tour guides are all local historians, often PhDs who are knowledgeable in the field. Our guide,...More

Most of the time while we were in Budapest, we heard and saw the usual tourist things. There were castles and churches, all of which were beautiful. There was a lot of talk about Hungary's role in WW2, seemingly dancing around certain topics. But it...More

Yes, Context is expensive, but their docents (Post graduates and PhDs), ought to be affirmed for their knowledge and enthusiasm. Greta, who floored us with her content and delivery of the Jewish Quarter, will astound you with her grasp of past and current politics of...More

Hi Mary, thanks so much for your kind comments. It sounds like your time with our docents helped you really dig into the story of Budapest and, more broadly, of Hungary. Hope to have you with us in more of our Context cities soon!

What a fabulous tour of the Jewish section of Budapest. Our tour guide Esther Susan was so interesting and brought to life the history of the Jews. Her knowledge was so deep and yet she shared with color.

My 20 year old son and I decided to begin our exploration of Budapest with a private introductory tour on our first morning. We have had private tour guides in various locations, and we both thought that Greta was among the very best. She is...More

We booked a private walking tour of the Jewish Quarter in Budapest. We were amazed to learn that our guide, Kata, had a Ph.D. and is a tenured professor at the university there. She was a learned tour guide who provided us with fascinating information...More

District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube,
with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The
Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica
stand out as two of the finest examples of
architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for
more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval
city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while
the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention
