The area

Neighborhood: District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.

The place's been recently renovated, and ever since they have some kind of electroswing party almost every night. Usually they are for free, and the party is cool if you're into this kind of stuff. The prices are at average downtown Budapest level, except for a drink called Lokal Cocktail, if you find a flyer or go to the bar knowing about the promotion, you can get two of them for 500 HUF. It has grenadine, vodka and champagne in it. Not the best cocktail I've ever had, but fair enough for the price. Oh yes, and you should also try their raspberry lemonade, which comes in a jar, not a glass, and has real raspberries at the bottom.

We ordered the cabbage & horseradish side dish and it was really good. I opted for a grilled chicken dish with roasted potatoes and it was amazing. My daughter also ordered a chicken dish that was slightly breaded with boiled potatoes and she loved her meal as well. We arrived for dinner early and had no wait. In fact, we loved it so much, we made reservations for the next night, which I would recommend.

the bar itself would be not that bad. well there are way nicer once in budapest, but it's a nice bar.
BUT take care... there can be barkeepers which are really rude and try to scam you. Why were there on a pub crawl and got coupons for gin tonic and shots.
well there was a huge amount of people and they were first daaaaamn slow. so I guess they don't like pub crawls... well why do you participate then to the coupon program? anyway.
finally I could order and I ordered 3 shots and 2 gin tonic... after 5 minutes he comes back with 3 shots and 3 gin tonic... Well anyway we'll drink one more... but then he said 5'100.- okay. Here I have coupons for 2 and 2. so I only pay 1 and 1... his only answer was. "do you speak english?" "yes, I do." "5'100.-"...

He didn't wanna take our coupons at all...even when there were already other 30 people paying with them... well afterwards we realized most of them tried it like us... and finally ended up with paying...

so, no service and scam

don't go there are nicer once in the distric 7

We used TripAdvisor and found this to be a wonderful local bar/restaurant. We tried the goulash and found it to be the best we had in Europe. If you go early they are very accommodating if you do not have reservations and agree to be done by the time the table was reserved. We sat with a table mate to which we enjoyed talking. Highly recommended.

Real local.
Good price and good food but the queue was long and it did not seem to have a system to keep track of which customers came first.

The decor is a little strange in places. But very entertaining at the same time.
The music on the evening we visited was great and the drinks were reasonably priced. It was a great starter for our evening out

This place was recommended by our Airbnb hosts. We went there for lunch on our first day in Prague. We thought it was excellent! Good food and good beer. The decor is like a true "beer hall", minimalist, but really good. Wait staff was fast and easy to communicate with (for English speakers). We tried to go back for dinner on Friday night but it was too crowded. The locals love this place so it's always crowded. My only compliant is very "American", in that it was smoky. This is Europe and that is how it is everywhere but at 7 months pregnant it's not comfortable. Lunch time wasn't as bad as when we went in for dinner. And when you're in Europe you just learn to live with smoking inside restuarants.

This should have been submitted a while ago. Saved it by accident. Great bar. Cheap drinks and swing music in full swing! Great atmosphere.

Wandered in here on a recent Tuesday because we could hear the music from the street. The band was incredible - vocalist/trumpet, trombone, banjo, drums - loved them! And from the way the crowd was dancing, they did as well. Cheap drinks were also very much appreciated. It was warm inside and very crowded but there was plenty of room in the outside area to cool off when needed. GO HERE. A highlight of Dob Street.
