We took the guided tour in English, our guide was really good and told us interesting things about the building. The building itself is impressive. At the end, we had a short and intimate opera concert that we paid a few euros at the beginning. In case you'd want to take pictures, you have to pay extra for it.

We just visited the foyer and cloak room but already you can sense the history of the place with the beautiful tiled floor, wooden panels and painted ceilings, would love to see a show here, I can imagine an amazing atmosphere on opera nights. They also have theatre shows here

If you are from Germany, Austria or France, you definitely want to visit the home of the world famous Hungarian operetta. Be prepared that very few performance is so good as it should be in Budapest. Unfortunately in the last years the niveau went down.

The Budapest Operetta Theater puts on Broadway-level musicals. We saw a 1928 production, the Duchess of Chicago. Very dated, but they made it as lively as possible. Decent pit orchestra. The venue is a big old theater lavishly decorated.Lots of restaurants nearby for apres show dining. We got the last two seats together, which happened to be in a box.... More

Very cheap place to go to a show. I saw Marie Antoinette - a modern take on an old story. The music was not memorable but played out with great panache and relish. Surtiltes in English helped me a lot!

Definitely a must if you are visiting Budapest. The history is worth learning about and the building is impressive. It's also worth paying extra to experience the mini opera.

It is a gorgeous facility, and the tour guide was able to impart quite a bit of knowledge. My only regret is that there was no show on for the day that I was there. Any Classical music lover will enjoy this facility.

We went to see the nuttcracker during christmas shows. It was more than amazing. Starting from the lights outside, the figures in the reception and the show itself. If you are an culture lover its a must.

I had the pleasure of seeing "The Duchess of Chicago" last week at the Operettszinhaz and it was just wonderful--the theatre is an exquisite gem, the audience seemed to be mainly Hungarians (thank goodness for English supertitles) and the show was charming--attractive and talented cast and a quality production. For approx. $22 US I had a front row center seat.... More
