- DavidNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom121 contributionsWith a visit to understand Soviet interface with this regionExcellent calibration point to understand the history of this country .The guide book is an essential purchase to help explain the historical perspective of each statue. We were along on a beautiful October day that helped us enjoy the site . If it was cold and wet it would be less fun, though still rewardingVisited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 11, 2023
- KimbriniCanterbury, United Kingdom686 contributionsSmall but crucial sight of communist sculpture. :)Really interesting place. It’s small and doesn’t take too long to look around. We really enjoyed the statues and I did some Wikipedia searching while we were there to find out about the more obscure people - although there is a guidebook you can buy. The bus service there was good and the lovely lady in the kiosk makes great coffee! There’s a film to watch and a small exhibition too. By the way, don’t buy a hip flask with a soviet badge on…it’s hardly attached by anything (glue) and falls off the first moment it gets.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 20, 2023
- Hoffman4Highland Village, Texas259 contributionsO.K.We walked around on our own and didn't do a guided tour. We bought the guidebook which was good. The park is far from downtown Budapest so we took a BOLT(their UBER) and it cost 7100 HUF one way, that's about 20 dollars. It's 3000 HUF for entry into the park. The guidebook cost 2000 HUF. They have another small museum across the street with posters and a short film which was very interesting. They have nice restrooms there at the park. The man selling tickets was very nice.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 21, 2023
- Karen B55 contributionsWell worth the visitAnyone interested in art, history and politics should go. A fantastic tour of this well curated collection of powerful statues that tell the story of communism. Easy to access via public transport and well worth it. The guide was excellent, it was a fascinating learning experience.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 31, 2023

- VarkHorncastle, United Kingdom45 contributionsWell worth a visit and easy to get via Metro and a short bus journey, which stops outside.Very warm welcome from the lovely lady at the ticket kiosk. She also spoke excellent English. A really interesting place to visit for all who want to understand a bit more about the history of Budapest and of Hungary as a whole. Fascinating to see so many huge monuments from the Soviet era. Highly recommend.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 19, 2024
- Andy LDurham, United Kingdom6 contributionsGood public transport links to a very good historical attractionI really enjoyed the park. I used public transport from Acquincum to travel and it was fine albeit trams, trains and buses involved it was all quite smooth. The girl at the kiosk in the park is very friendly and welcoming. A guide book is essential and very informative if you don’t do the tour. I didn’t and still had enough information to enjoy the place. It’s very well organised and well worth the visit.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 28, 2024
- Alison LKingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom30 contributionsImpressive statues of the communist eraReally enjoyed our morning here. Very interesting & informative. We bought the guide book , which was essential to give information about each statue. We also saw the exhibition & watched the information films. It is outside the centre of Budapest, so we used the bus service to get there- the 150 stops outside the attraction. Cheap to use- about £3.90 for 4 tickets (450HUF each per journey)Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 9, 2024
- Shirley N18 contributionsInteresting visitLovely visit to the open air park on a sunny day. Instructions on website for public transportation very good so the park was very easy to find. Guided tour or book (available at 2000 huf) essential to understand the background of each statue. Complex but interesting part of Hungary’s history. A few souvenirs to purchase but no t-shirts.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 10, 2024

Went to Memento Park under our own steam. The place is out in the sticks, but still easily accessible by public transport. From the middle of Budapest to the park in about 45 mins. Take Metro Line 4 to Kelenfold (the final stop), then take Exit B and board either the 101B, 101E or 150 bus [NB there are other bus companies at the other exits, so you must take Exit B]. Ride it for about 15 mins and you’re there. The park is pretty small, and you have to pay an entrance fee (€6 if memory serves), but it’s good value to see all the Soviet era statues in their final ‘resting place’. They range from small plaques to 3 or 4 gigantic affairs. Interesting place and worth the effort to get there

The place is just amazing, and Judit's passion for the Park and statues is simply contagious. I can't thank her enough for being such a wonderful host and providing so many useful information about the Park's design and contemporary uses. I would recommend to anyone coming to Budapest to just go there and experience the magnitude of the communist propaganda.

If you grew up in the Cold War, You have to take a trip out to Memento Park. Although they present it somewhat seriously, the place is loaded with momentous heroic Communist monuments that beg for the ironic selfie. The park is small but the statues are huge and there are souvenirs like the fake USSR passport for sale. It's a bit out of town, but very easy to reach by Budapest's excellent public transportation system. The 101B or E bus from Kelenfold station on the Metro will drop you off right there.

You hear of communism being massive and how the world changed when it fell...Honestly the amount of exhibits and statues on offer here was pitiful. It was a £20 taxi ride each way miles from the city. Very dissapointing. I was expecting it to be a little bigger. Photos online make it look huge and more interesting.

This park is quite interesting to see (and also to get to). The lady at the entrance was extremely kind and recommended us to buy an English booklet with further information, which was quite helpful to know more about the statues. Especially the large statues are impressive, and it was also fun to sit in the Trabant car. It is true though that it doesn't necessarily have to take much time for the full experience. Visiting the park and learning about the communist era could nevertheless be considered important to commemorate a part of Hungary's 20th century past. Greetings from The Netherlands!

Memento park is a beautiful park: it's a home to a number of gigantic statues, and other communist monuments. It is spacious, the statues are fascinating. There is a bunker, which houses a number of extremely unsettling statues of Lenin (and one Stalin). There also is a barrack which shows the communist history of Hungary.

We had a guided tour of Memento Park with Judit and it was fantastic - so interesting and informative. She's a great guide, passionate about her subject and very knowledgeable about Hungary's history. We, and our young adult children, were really glad we visited and would highly recommend a tour. It was easy to book our visit and also to get there on Budapest's fantastic transport system.

I honestly don't remember for sure - I know we didn't have any florins so we either paid by credit card or used euros. Many of the Hungarian sites are very kind to accept euros so you don't have to get florins for a short stay. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

Hi I'm planning a trip to the Memento park in early August, My question is, Is the bus service from Deak ter, in operation in August?
Written June 2, 2018
Best to look at the webpage of Memento Park, but I would think that the bus will be running, possibly at a lower frequency because of the holidays.

hi.
We are staying Pest side near Nyugati bus/metro. what's the best way to get to memento park from here?
And how much does it cost?
thanks
Written April 25, 2018
Just take M4 toward Kelenfold (end of the line) and catch the bus from there directly to Memento Park... it is across the street from the bus stop. Cost is the cost of the metro ticket same tix for metro and bus...
