The museum building alone is very interesting. We went to time travel exhibition. Everything was excellent except cash desk employee didn’t tell us that the exhibition were purchasing tickets to closes earlier than the other ones (so we had about 40 minutes to see it all, which was okay we’ve seen everything and we weren’t in a much of a hurry)

Take the number 2 tram down the line for a number of stops and you'll arrive at this extraordinary museum of modern art. There were two special exhibitions on this month and the permanent exhibition on the top floor. There's a great deal to take in as the exhibitions don't only include visual displays but many videos that you need to take time to watch properly so that they real impact can be felt. I loved the experience and spent about three hours at the museum.

Located right on the Danube, you can walk around outside to enjoy the view after seeing some modern art in a new building, adjacent to a huge concert hall. Lovers of modern/contemporary art will be happy.

Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art is the only museum in Hungary collecting contemporary artworks exclusively. The collection, whose core was donated to the museum by Peter and Irene Ludwig and today the number of emblematic works of Western, Central and Eastern European art from the past fifty years exceeds 500 pieces. Since 2005, the Palace of Arts has been the home of Ludwig Museum, where beside the permanent exhibition exciting temporary exhibitions, related art and pedagogical art events galore await. Site Inspection - The Museum on the Museum, an exhibition on the varying roles of museums is on show till October 23rd.

I had high hopes for this place, and the tram ride to get there was great....however, although we were virtually the only visitors in the galleries (and you would be forgiven for thinking we had a craft knife in one hand and graffiti spray paint in the other), we were followed from one room to the next in all the exhibitions. Very uncomfortable, so much so that we abandoned our viewing early and went to the cafe - where I got a nice smile and a decent coffee. I have emailed the Museum director (which has been read and received no reply.
Of course there is an opportunity here for mischief - like suddenly turning on your heels and viewing the exhibits in reverse order to confuse the staff. Not going back.

Dear Visitor, we are terribly sorry for your inconvenience! Due to a few recent artwork damages, our colleagues are paying increased attention to every movement in the exhibition halls in order to ensure the safety of the exhibited objects. We would like to apologise for their overzealous approach and that it made you feel uneasy in any way. I assure you we are taking the necessary steps to prevent if from happening again. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Although I loved some of the art pieces (I even ended up buying some postcards of them from the gift shop), the employees of the museum made us feel very uncomfortable. I'm a Romanian man and I was visiting the museum together with my fiancee (also Romanian). The moment the employees heard us speaking between each other - not louder than it would be acceptable in a museum, I must add - they started following every step we made. We felt a little suffocated by this, as there was always an employee within 8 meters radius staring at us very attentively and following us closely. We wouldn't have considered this particularly strange if we wouldn't have noticed that we were the only ones being followed. There were other people visiting the exhibition, some German tourists and some Hungarian ones, and they were not being paid any attention by the employees. Strikingly, it was only us that were being closely followed (and no, it was not just our imagination).
I've noticed that a different reviewer had a similar experience recently. I would suggest the museum management to educate their staff a little more or at least train them not to be this obvious. It was overall a very uncomfortable experience.

I love all art but especially painting and I saw a number of pieces by well known artists I had never seen before in any books. It was a joy to find them and made my heart beat harder. I would love to return but it's a long way from California.

We visited a few weeks ago and the current exhibitions were very enjoyable, interesting and full of very good pices of modern art. Would recommend also because of reasonable ticket price and friendly staff at the reception.

You pay different prices for different levels of the museum. For such a large building it was quite empty but it is worth having a look at. We checked out the third floor but doesn't take long. Staff follow you around as if you are art thieves......

Thank you for the rating! If you visit Budapest again, do not forget to come back, because an average of 8-10 temporary exhibitions are organised at the Ludwig Museum each year. From time to time, it also showcases its collection to the public in various contexts. You may find an exhibition you like better! :)
