- Carol A SMarietta, Georgia4,202 contributionsGraceful span linking Buda, Pest and Margaret IslandMargaret Bridge is a three-way bridge across the Danube, connecting Buda, Pest and Margaret Island. It is the second-oldest public bridge in Budapest, designed by French engineer Ernest Goüin and completed in 1876. The bridge comprises several graceful arches of steel trusses (painted yellow), forming an unusual 165 degree bend where it touches Margaret Island. Margaret Bridge is 638m long, and 25m wde, with several lanes of traffic, tram tracks, bike path and pedestrian walkways on either side. The bridge was destroyed late in WW II by the Nazis, rebuilt after the war, and refurbished to its present glory in 2011. I enjoyed walking over the bridge early in the morning on my way to Margaret Island. The views of both the Buda and Pest sides of the river were superb, numerous boats were going up or down the river, and I was amazed at the swift Danube current rushing under the spans. The bridge is beautifully lit at night, and is open at all times with no fee. Margaret Bridge has stops for Bus# 6 and Trams# 4&6 near the ramp to Margaret Island.Visited May 2019Written February 11, 2020
- Roberts69Northampton, United Kingdom18,220 contributionsA walk across Margaret Bridge is the best way to visit the Island. When in Budapest Margaret Island, a beautiful green Island in the Danube, is well worth exploring and I would recommend you start your adventure by walking over the Margaret Bridge. The bridge is the second oldest bridge in Budapest and was designed by French engineer Ernest Goüin and built between 1872 and 1876. Damaged during WW2 and repaired afterwards the bridge was is a bad condition come the 2000's and so a restoration was completed in 2011. Margaret Bridge is 607.5 m (1,993 ft) in length and 25 m (82 ft) wide it links both Buda and Pest to the island. The bridge is decorated with sculptures of the Hungarian Crown Jewels and you get a nice view of the Hungarian Parliament from the bridge.Visited April 2022Written May 5, 2022
- Tiberiu_BaranyiTimisoara, Romania12,858 contributionsConnection to the Margaret IslandOne of the 9 bridges of Budapest and also the second oldest bridge in Budapest over the Danube ( the Chain Bridge is the oldest). It is an interesting engineering work since it is not straight through but it makes an angle to connect the two sides of the city with the Margaret Island. The bridge was destroyed during WWII - just like any other bridge in the city - by the retreating german army. It was rebuilt immediately after the war (most of the steel of the bridge has been recovered from the Danube and reused in the rebuilding of the bridge). The most interesting feature of this bridge is the connection to the Margaret island ... that was added a few years after the bridge was actually build in the late 1800. Today it is one of the access points to the Margaret island and it has a tram stop right at the passageway to the island. It has also a pedestrian walkway so you can also walk through it. It is interesting and one of the landmarks of the city ... go an check it out.Visited November 2019Written July 24, 2020

It was blown up in 1944, but it was rebuilt in 1948. It was renovated in 2011 so now I think it's one of the nicest and most popular bridges in Budapest. I like walking over it when I go to Margaret Island. But last time we went by tram (number 4/6) to Buda. You can ride a bike, too and take lots of photos, because the view is great.Visited February 2020Written March 10, 2020

It was built between 1872 and 1876. It is the second oldest bridge in the city. It was reconstructed in 1978, and its dilapidated condition justified the start of a major renovation in August 2009. Recently refurbished in a multi-year project, the Margaret Bridge not only connects Buda and Pest, but it is a lovely sight in-and-of itself; plus one of the main entrances to the relaxing Margret Island. Completed in 1876 and rebuilt in 1948 after the retreating German blew it up in WWII: The bridge has beautiful external renderings, statues and ironwork all over it and provides a terrific view of the city from several different angles, as the two halves of the bridge are tweaked 30 degrees. This gives photographers several views of each side of the river just steps apart. The new walkways are very wide and there is a bike path as well. Margaret bridge connects Buda and Pest over the beautiful Danube river to Margaret Island and is one of the oldest bridges in Budapest. It is very busy with regards to traffic, especially with tourist buses, (which we were on), but we also had the chance to stop and take in the views of the surrounds. As our tour guide has suggested though, it has become the most congested bridge of the Hungarian capital. The great history and architecture is well worth a stop and visit.

Nice looking wee bridge. Some nice views over to the Parliament anaw. We did a circular walk over the Szechenyi Bridge, up Buda Castle, along to Fisherman's Bastion, down then over the bridge.

I walked over the Margaret (Margit) Bridge several times during my trip in Budapest. I found getting there before sunrise time provided better opportunities for photography. Unfortunately, the parliament building is no longer lit after midnight, but if you walk towards the Buda side and set up your tripod you can still find a good composition. Also, if you're interested in long exposure photography, then the bridge is less shaky in the morning. I also went there for sunset but the trams and cars crossing the bridge make it difficult to expose for extended periods of time. The views are truly stunning. I'm enclosing a photo I took 20 minutes before sunrise to give you an idea of what you can expect. Must-see spot in Budapest for me.

Ciao, forse hai confuso la mia recensione con quella di un certo Sandro Z. da Milano, recensita il 23 agosto del 2012, o di Emanuele F. di Senago, sempre di agosto 2012. Ciao.
La mia è la seguente: “bello”

I was wondering about the sculptures on the Margaret Bridge? The male is Hercules, but I cannot find names for the female sculptures - are they intended to be anyone in particular? Or just generic females?

I read about it.
These are original French sculptures, because the plan of building made by Ernest Gouin.
The man is not Hercules, but he is a mythological figure, and the woman is a general mythologial figure, she has no name.
Both of them angels with wings, with shape of rostrum.
