A really lovely place to visit to get away from the city. It's basically a large park on an island in the Danube. Locals use it for jogging, cycling and other sports . There are no cars allowed , but you can hire bikes, small electric carts or just walk and enjoy the paths. One highlight is the fountain near... More

Visited this beautiful park twice. Free entry to park. You can watch the musical fountain display each hour. There are plenty of walks, plants and numerous transport you can hire. Can also get a free shuttle train down to Platinus pool. We opted to walk and sit and enjoy a large space in peace and beauty.

There is quite a variety of activities available on this island, which is a short walk from the Margaret Bridge; accessible by public transit. We didn't spend a lot of time here, but thoroughly enjoyed the "Singing Waters Fountain" and ice cream from a vendor. A delightful place to spend a summer evening.

We spend an evening here on our visit to Budapest and were amazed by how much there was to see and do on the island. We ate Langos and watched the singing fountain before exploring the island a bit more. It has lots of gardens, a zoo, a hostel, lots of places to hire bikes and two fountains (that we... More

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighborhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
