The island is accessible via the 4 or 6 tram line so don't bother with a ferry. We bought sandwiches and drinks before going over and found a great spot to have a picnic near the fountain. There are so many beautiful spots to choose from. The fountain plays music every hour timed with the water. There is a swimming... More

If you go here in the afternoon you will catch the water show at the fountain in the early evening, this is a must, great atmosphere, the kids would love it also.

We stopped on Margaret Island as part of the Danube River Cruise on Legenda. We rented a pedal bike for two and worked our way around this beautiful little oasis in the middle of the Danube. It's a fun place where families gather and a nice respite from the city.

It's a nice place to go if you want time out from doing city stuff. If you have children it is a great place to take them to let off steam and just have fun. There is a lot on the small island. The water fountain, whilst quite small and simple, seems to attract quite the crowd! The running track... More

It is a nice place and which is attractive because of it is an island. You can walk, have a picnic or rent a golf-car... But I don't suggest to go there if you don't have extra time in Budapest.

A 2.5km island in the middle of the Danube. We reached it easily by foot, over the bridge. We spent a couple of hours strolling around in the glorious sunshine and it was such a nice way to spend an afternoon. As soon as we walked onto the island we were greeted by the musical fountain. Chances are high for... More

Staying in Margaret Island

Neighborhood Profile
Margaret Island
For Budapest, this island between the banks of the Danube represents a green oasis, especially during summer when its emerald spaces are much enjoyed by both locals and tourists. The gardens here are very picturesque; the flowers in full bloom give the landscape a variety of hues; the fountains add an air of freshness, making walks peaceful, joyful and romantic. A leisurely stroll will uncover a variety of sites, even the ruins of a medieval Franciscan church and convent are still visible.
