This museum is free to enter, provided you have preregistered to it on their website. The overall trip in the museum is amazing, which was really surprising to me since it's not advertised on too many websites. If you are interested in seeing ancient (and more recent special) coins, bills and other forms of payment, especially those with relation to Hungary, and perhaps learn about their origins, uses, and other intriguing info about them, this is a must visit!
What's also exciting is that there are some games incorporated during the visit, which can help you get a feel of the stock market and barter trading. You can also try things like pipe mail, and control an animation that shows the flow of money in an online shopping process.
The overall museum shares a beautiful building of great tradition with Hungarian National Bank, and (almost) everything is explained in English and Mandarin along with the Hungarian text.
I would recommend to give it a visit, but make sure you have some hours to burn here, it is definitely worth it!

Fantastic place, absolutely loved it! The entrance is free, but you have to register before.
With the help of the Money Museum, people can easily understand how the money works. This knowledge is essential in individual, family and community life.
In the Museum, you can meet some robots too.
After the visit you can go to the rooftop bar, so called Panoramic Terrace, from where you may find a beautiful city view. It is also free.

This new glitzy museum can only be visited by prior appointment by a limited number of people. The introductory text strongly suggests that this may be a very expensive vanity project by the president of the Hungarian National Bank otherwise known for his bizarre ‘unorthodox’ economic theories. The museum offers highly sophisticated computerized presentations and interactive games (in Hungarian, English and Chinese!!) to make some very simple and obvious points about the functions, origins, uses and management of money. Personally, I found the educational value of of these gee-whizz displays rather disappointing – at about the level of a ten year old kid. Obviously no (public) money was spared to create this pretentious and no expenses spared edifice. For this much money something far more relevant and educationally useful could have been created in a country like Hungary where educational institutions and museums are in dire straits. This 'museum' seems more an edifice to personal vanity than a genuine museum.

As well as showing some of the technology used in banking and monetary systems, plus obviously a good collection of coins, the museum uses an interactive game to educate and entertain around the subject of credit and money. The game was a bit laborious and needs to be speeded up. The approach was certainly different, but also not entirely clear about what it was trying to achieve. The conclusion was that independent Central Banks are the epitome of financial wizardry. It would have been nice to admit that there are problems with fiat currencies, not least the use of inflation to make government debt disappear.
Finally, the gift shop was not really obvious. It should certainly promote the sale of coins, especially to tourists!
