The stunning Bela Bartok concert hall at the MUPA building is every music-loving person's dream. The beautiful hall, with its very comfortable seats, tastefully decorated walls, and great sound quality, is the perfect place to listen and immensely enjoy in the evening we were there, Shubert's fantastic music and an American guest singer, with a virtuoso performance. During the interval, the service at the coffee bar was exemplary, taking into consideration the number of people who were served. Concert at the MUPA could be described as an elegant total experience, to body and soul.

Our family of five (three teenage boys) attended a jaw dropping concert by Felix Lajkó and his band in the Bartók Béla Concert Hall.

We arrived in the night with the #2 Tram and walked the short distance to the front facade. In the foggy night the building was stunning from the exterior. Each performance venue readable through the massive glass facade and coloured with LED lights - it was a spectacle and heightened our sense of anticipation.

The interior was just as stunning and we were particularly taken with the multilayered art installation which transformed sound waves of artists into sculptural forms suspended in the space. It’s so very beautifully finished on the inside: from handrails, to flooring, to patterned curving wood walls and visually mid-bending stairs.

The concert hall venue was packed but very comfortable. We sat in the second row on the balcony and had a great view. The acoustic music was enhanced but it was perfectly balanced and we all thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

Müpa is a very beautifully designed building and the concert hall seems to be excellent acoustically.

Very nice place. It's a very impressive modern building. Many performances are held there. It' s located nearby the National Theatre. Worth seeing both of them.

Review for the Festival Theatre in MUPA*
I'd normally give a five star review, as we watch plays here at a regular basis, however we had an ugly incident lately.
After arriving exactly 5minutes late we were being sent to the balcony entrance. There we found out we cant get to our seat and - as it was full house - we can stand through the play. Needless to say, we went home - staff didnt offer any solution.
I do understand that visitors are expected to be on time, and being late from any sort of performance seldom happens to me, however this complete lack of flexibility and disregard for the customers is simply outragous.
On a positive note, the city is full of great venues so it wont be hard to somewhere else in the future.

After a friend’s suggestion we attended a concert of traditional Hungarian music. We were impressed by the architecture of the building (it’s a theatre, a museum of modern art and a concert hall). It’s accessible by tram 2. Of course you can go there at day and have another view of the city

I prefer this concert hall to the academy of music in Budapest. I think I listened more than 200 concerts by now. Also there is a museum of contemporary arts and a smaller theater inside. The staff is friendly and helpful. You don't have to pay for parking if you have a ticket for the concert that day. The view from the terrace is amazing and it has a nice restaurant and many bars inside. I recommend to check the program before going there, and buy the tickets online, because the concerts are often sold out, and you can also skip the line.

We saw a dance concert here on our last night in Budapest and were SO thankful that we were able to get last-minute tickets.

It's worth spending some time standing outside the building before you go in just to admire the monumental architecture--even more so if you're there at night, as the lights are constantly changing, creating an unexpected light show. The building was constructed in 2005 and has cutting-edge technology throughout--from the acoustics inside the theatre (there are two different theatres in the complex, along with a museum) to the restrooms' revolving toilet sats that are cleaned automatically after each use. The building won the architectural FIABCI Prix d’Excellence in 2006 – in the category for buildings offering public services. The building was filmed in a recent movie, as the setting for a NASA headquarters.

The dance performance we saw was one of the most memorable we've ever seen, and the theatre itself is absolutely gorgeous--very contemporary but still quite warm. The interior of the Festival Theatre is constructed with layers of different woods, to spectacular effect.

The minute you know you'll be in Budapest, start trying to buy tickets for whatever will be playing during your stay. I'd do anything to ensure that you can see a performance at this major arts complex. They offer a huge variety of performances, from classical to contemporary, popular and world music, jazz and opera, as well as contemporary circus, dance, literature and film.

The prices for our world-class dance performance were an insane steal at about €12 each for the best seats in the theatre (centre, close to the front). Seeing an equivalent performance in a city such as London, Paris or NY would easily set you back €75.

The complex is a little out of the way, but the 15-minute taxi ride from our rented apartment (near the Great Synagogue) only cost about €8, and we easily found a taxi on the street to get us back home, once the performance was over.

This great music hall has probably one of the best acoustics in Central Europe. You have perfect view from every seat, and your can hear every sound perfectly wherever you sit (even the last row of the 3rd balcony. Free parking during performances and easy access by tram. The programs include classical concerts, operas, and jazz, performed by the finest artist of all over the world. And much more, e.g. Met performances in HD etc.visit www.mupa.hu for english program and online tickets. A must for lovers of music. The Ludwig Museum is in the same building.

The purpose of our visit was to see Der Ring des Nibelungen and Tannhäuser at the MUPA. The theater is beautiful and well appointed. There were many kiosks to pick up snacks and drinks and an outdoor cafe. There is also a pricey sit down restaurant on the lower level for pre-ordered menu served during the long 1 hour intervals. The theater is new, beautiful and spacious. I recommend the seats in the 1st or 2nd tier for the best sight lines and acoustic. The parkett seats are too close to the orchestra and also you have to crane your neck UP to view the stage. The orchestra led by Adam Fisher was very good, the chorus exquisite. Principle singers were hit and miss and some were past their sell-by-date. Overall, it's a lot of music for not a lot of money.
Also this is on the outskirts of town and you have to get there by tram or taxi - DO NOT BOOK YOUR HOTEL NEAR THE MUPA - there is nothing to see or do there and you will be forever on the tram back into town to do things.

All of the Art is by Hungarian artists starting in medieval times. Use the self guide. We spent 2 hours looking at wonderful art. It can be very tiring but it is worth it.
