Was really looking forward to listening to some jazz that was advertised, upon arrival it was a bit chaotic with queues and no organisation, trying to get into the concert area was refused and told wasn’t allowed in with a jacket and it must go in the cloakroom. The cloakroom cost was 300 and was another lengthy queue. Observed a huge door steward standing over an old man wait ha raised voice saying he wasn’t getting in unless he took his jacket to the cloakroom. Trip out to the toilet, doorman insisted I need my ticket again to get in. At the end had to wait in a queue for 20 minutes to get my jacket back
I have nothing positive to say about the concert as the experience was so terrible, felt like intimidation to be instructed to book a jacket into the cloakroom and just a money charging exercise. Door security was intimidating and unfriendly, seats were hard and uncomfortable
I would recommend you go somewhere else that is friendly and respects people

Good music but extremely watery cocktails. My espresso Martini tasted like watered down coffee and my girlfriend’s Mojito didn’t taste like rum at all. When we complained with the bartender she got defensiva rather than apologizing. We’re going to stay away from this place from now on.

My 19 yr old daughter & I stopped in one afternoon. It was so chill & laid back that we decided to return that evening. Unfortunately, we got there about 15 minutes after the headliner show started and we missed out on tickets. But we were able to sit in one of the other rooms and watch it on the screen and listen. It has a very nice relaxed atmosphere.

We came upon this spot on our first night. Entry was free, drinks reasonably priced and staff very friendly. The music had just finished, so we returned later during our visit to an open mic night. Fabulous music from very talented musicians. If you like music it will be worth the visit.

What a venue this is. My friend and I decided, on a whim, to venture out of the tourist-orientated parts of Budapest and we were glad we did. We saw a wonderful show that translates roughly to Or My Heart Beat. The performance was perfect. We couldn't understand a word but we understood the story perfectly. The musicians were top-tier.
Staff (and patrons) were friendly and welcoming. The vibe in the bar was super relaxing.
If you want to do something different on your visit, I'd highly recommend.

Music is nice. Bar is nice. Prices and drink menu are nice.... and... staff has, by far, worst attitude in entire city.
I do not speak Hungarian, but as I visited this bar I soon noticed that staff behind the counter were imitating me and all other foreign customers in a "not so flattering manner" and making jokes about stupidity of people who do not understand them.
First I thought it was just my imagination, but as I asked this from my friends everyone had noticed same. We shared our thoughts and it was clear to every one that this is not a welcoming place to tourists.
Do go this club if you
A) are Hungarian,
B) love racism or...
C) prefer to be ridiculed and served after every domestic customer in bar.

I'm going to try and put my experience here into words.. As an Australian, we aren't lucky enough to have meals this spectacular for under $15 aud. Ever.. We paid at least a 5th of the price. It would be impossible to beat this. I ordered the rosemary chicken steak roasted in white wine with Indonesian red rice and spicy yoghurt sauce. When the food came out I was blown away by not only the presentation but the quality of the ingredients and the beautiful tastes explored in this dish. My friends and I had never eaten slower as we just sat there silent, chewing away at the masterpiece in front of us. Then came dessert. Now I'm not normally a huge fan of cheesecake but the banana- apple baked cheesecake with mulberry ganache on the menu sounded yummy.. And it was more than that. It wasn't too sweet so then one felt sick and the cake part of it melted in my mouth. The biscuit base was so smooth that I thought it was cream. Then to top it all off, the presentation was adorable with a dolphin carved out of banana sitting on the plate and slices of delicious fresh fruit artistically placed on the giant dollop of an exquisite cream which I can't describe. Then to top it all off, the ambience created by candle light and jazz music amplified from the concert hall next door made it so relaxing. The staff were so friendly and hospitable and I was lucky enough to meet the chef and give him my personal thanks for the best meal I have ever had in my life. If you are ever in Hungary, or even near Hungary, go to the Budapest Jazz Club. It has now become my new favorite restaurant and the next two nights' dinners shall be here tasting all the other wonderful dishes the chef has created himself.

It all went wrong from the same beginning. First we tried to contact the club in order to book a table, but they just didn't reply, so we had to waste our time and go there in the morning to book the table. The girl at the bar told us that at 9 p.m. they were going to have a "concert". And after the concert local musicians would play. We reserved tickets (the box office was closed) for the concert and booked a table. When we came there in the evening the girl at the box office told us that it was actually not "a concert", but "a theatre". And after the theatre musicians would play jazz. So was that a concert or a theatre? Neither. This so-called theatre ("Cagematch") was a weird performance of weird people playing the ape, shouting and running around the stage. I would have never wanted to see that even for free. And I was made to pay for that 2500 ft. We couldn't stay inside the concert hall till the end of the "show" and went to the bar where I tried to get information from the staff when jazz was going to start and where exactly musicians would play. I couldn't get a full answer for ages as if I was trying to get some confidential info. Finally they explained that the jam session was going to start at 10p.m. in the hall upstairs. And "if you want you can go upstairs now". Also we found out that there was no need to go to see the theatre and pay for the ticket because everybody could come just for a jazz session for free. Nice and right in time.
While sitting at the table and waiting for the concert to start we tried to make an order and ask the waitress to get us some drinks but for some reason she kept ignoring us again and again. So we had to go downstairs to the bar to get the drinks by ourselves. The personnel wasn't friendly at all.
As extra: we had to pay 100 ft each for the cloakroom and the same amount for WC (each time you need to go there) - ridiculous.
As the only positive thing: music was nice. But just nice, nothing outstanding. If you want to waste your time and money and get through all that - you are welcome. As for us, we were really disappointed that we spoiled our journey and wasted one night in this wonderful city.

I'd heard rave reviews of this place, but when we got there we found a venue with very little atmosphere, no aircon (on a night of 34 degrees c), and staff who refused to acknowledge the drinks deals clearly written on posters all over the place. We went on a Friday night and caught a jam session, and while the jazz itself was good technically, it wasn't much of a concert and while I like jazz I found the bright lighting, lack of people and horrendous heat sort of drained my enjoyment away. Still, it was free entry, so can't complain too much!

We arrived Budapest late, was just wondering around the street. We first thought probably all bars have been closed, but by accident we saw this Jazz bar and it has a live performance l. We love the band. The bar is spacious, drinks are very reasonable price, live performance is absolutely a plus! Highly recommend.

We are visiting Budapest in early May this year. Would like to try this club, but only info I find on line is in Hungarian. Know of any way to get information in English?
Written March 24, 2018
Go on their website and click on the flag on the top right hand corner, this should give you a drop down box with English option, we booked our tickets from the UK, so I know it works. hope this helps

My husband and I are travelling with a demure, well behaved 10 year old. I can't find an 18+ only designation anywhere. Could my 10 year old be allowed in with us?

Hi, when we went it was full, with a mixed age audience. I can't see any objection, but some may ! I would email them: info@bjc.hu or telephone 36704139837 (10.00am -6pm) just to confirm. Some shows go on rather late for children too..
