About
We believe that a nation can be truly understood through its cuisine. A culture is characterized by its gastronomy just as much as by its music, literature or fine art. There is a story behind every single dish and drink offered here - all of them are about Hungary. About how we live and enjoy life.

I was in Budapest for a short time, and wanted to try a range of different Palinka varieties. The place is amazing! Gergo (the host) was very helpful In introducing me to Palinka, allowing me to compare and contrast different styles and flavors. I couldn’t decide which I liked best, so I ended up buying several bottles. I’d recommend this place to anyone who is interested in sampling a uniquely Hungarian tasting experience.

We visited Palinka Museum for a wine tasting with Matthew, and what a fantastic experience! We were able to taste 7 Hungarian (and we'll selected) wines, along with local delicacies of cheese, cured meats and pate. A basket of bread and plenty of water was also provided for each guest, which was sensible given that the tasting measures were fairly generous! Matthew himself was very knowledgeable and engaging. He clearly knows his stuff and is passionate about sharing the wine of Hungary with guests. He was happy to banter and answer questions from our group too which made for a very enjoyable evening. I can thoroughly recommend. Thank you Matthew?

Small, beautiful and interactive museum. It was included in our Szechenyi Thermal Bath ticket, otherwise we wouldn't have found the museum. Very friendly staff. A drink at the end was included. We stayed longer and had something extra.

My boyfriend and I had the Budapest Card, and this experience was free, included in the price of the card. The tasting option includes either 3 types of wine, or 3 types of palinka. I chose the wines ( a glass of red, one rosé and one white ) accompanied by a series of small cheeses and charcuterie meats. We found it very tasty and pleasant. A good experience if you want to try some quality Palinka. Very fast and kind serving and the place was cosy. All in all a great experience!

It’s only not getting a 5 star review as palinka isn’t the greatest! (If you are a vodka or brandy drinker, you’ll enjoy it more than I did!!) It’s small but perfectly formed. Good information in the museum and plenty of options for taste testing the drink. We did the 4- flight, grape, pear, apricot and elderflower and were there a couple of hours. Plenty to choose from including lots of food options. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks Leah for your help!

Booked with a combined spa visit. Juliet and Ilith gave us good background to the Pálinka and were very helpful. Good pictures and historical information as part of the decor but not overwhelming. Apple Maps didn’t find it as Gastro Cellar but as Palinka Experience so easy to find once we’d worked it out!!

The highlight of the tour was the palinka tasting at the end of the tour. Both members of bar staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in providing recommendations. In particular, Kinga tailored the experience perfectly to our tastes and was very entertaining. Gergo was also very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend :)

We couldn’t really understand how this is the third best museum in Budapest! It’s very small, and unfortunately none of the interactive games were working properly. We were offered a guided tour but as we were the only two people there we didn’t like to take up someone’s time just for us, so we read the information ourselves. The barman was very friendly and knowledgeable, we enjoyed chatting to him while we tasted some plum Palinka (which I’m afraid to say we did not enjoy the taste of!) We got this included with our ticket to the thermal baths and luckily the museum was a few doors down from our hotel, but if I’d made a special journey or had to pay for this experience then I’d have been disappointed

very welcoming place, very friendly waitresses.
we took a tour of the museum, we immersed ourselves in the history of the Palinka.
inside the museum there is a digital screen where we independently found all the origins of the various fruits used to create this distillate.

My Italian husband loves Grappa of course, so as our trip to Budapest was a surprise for his birthday I decided to book the hungarian equivalent of a Grappa museum and go to the Pálinka museum. Good value for money, very nice tour guide and you even get a shot to try at the end.
We decided to stay and have a light lunch after the shot and food was excellent.

If you want to try palinka, this is not the best option. The museum is in a bar with a room where there is a brief exhibition of the history and production of palinka. At the end a culin of white palinka to wet your lips. Not worth the money you pay at all

Short guided tour in the museum learning about Pálinka in Hungary & then there is some games to play. Followed by a seat at the bar for a free Pálinka shot. They also offer Pálinka tasting for a good price too if this is something you would be interested in. Lovely decor & nice staff.

We expected to be led through the museum with explanations. As a result, we were sent to inspect the “museum” ourselves. After that, they gave out 4 stacks for each with an amount of half a sip. The Hungarian tasting plate paid for two also looked skimpy and looked like it was designed for one person at most.
This visit did not correspond to the amount paid.

How can you go to Budapest and don't do the palinka museum, it's a must to do ! you can learn a lot of things about Palinka (history and how to do it) our guide Eszti was great she know everything about this emblematic hungarian alcohol and her explication was very clear for 2 french people.
The museum is very nice with some games and at the end you taste some kind of Palinka with different fruits. The personal was nice and very friendly. I highly recommand and Eszti is the best with all the time the smile, choose her for your visit.

Good experience tasting the different palinkas. However, prices paid in the physical shop are totally disproportionate versus prices on their website ( from simple to double). Worst even is that when ordering online, they claim they have stock and supply chain issues which is a lie as products are in stock in the place you pick up , meaning the store itself. Very disappointing experience despite good products tasted !

This museum is more like an add on to a bar, it’s underground and the setting is lovely for the bar. The museum itself is done really well and is modern and interactive but takes about 15 mins to get round. The staff are lovely and friendly. I now know about the drink! Given a free shot to try, not to my taste but nice to try.
