Want to have a tour of the sites of a City but something different from a coach or walk? Then try a Segway tour. My girlfriend and I did just that on our trip to Budapest recently and what an experience! A Segway looks like a two wheel lawn mower. A battery powered two wheeled scooter that goes about 9mph max. The segway tour office is on Lazar Utca immediately behind theOpera House.

You start with a 15 minute induction of the machine. A really nice guide we had in Anna. Once we got the hang of the machine off we went speeding along towards the Danube, getting so much attention from passsers by as we went. The trip lasts two hours and you get to see a part of the City you would not normally experience. People smile as you glide past and boy do people watch you.

The tour takes you through the streets of Pest from The Opera House through to the river, the chain bridge and then on to the Parliament building.

Absolutely recommended!!

my wife and i have been on several ocean cruises but my wife can get sea sick so we elected to try a river cruise. Avalon Waterways has a five day Taste of the Danube which takes in Budapest, Linz, Melk, Vienna, Durnstein and a road trip to Salzburg. The difference between ocean cruises and a river cruise can be sum up in one word personal. Because your cruisemates will number anywhere from 100 to 185 people who become individuals very quickly. If you like meeting people this is a vacation for you. In addition the food quality and selection beats most oceanliners and you are going nonstop from a wonderful buffet breakfast and lunch to a seatdown dinner with wine included. No need to worry about coffee be it expresso or capacino as it is available free 24 hours. We sailed on Avalon's older ship the Tapestry, 2006, and one would never notice any aging with staterooms larger then again most oceanliners. Can't say enough very enjoyable, great new friends.

I recomend you to buy the Budapest card so you can use all of the public transportation in the city for free. With the card you also get free tours of Buda and Pest, free entrances in some of the museums and a lot of discounts on other things that the city offers. A friend and I took 2 walking tours in Budapest. Anita was our guide in Buda and she made our tour a very plesent and nice experience. Tour lasted about 1,5 h and in that time we learned a lot of Budas history. On the Pest side our guide was Barby. Tour lasted about 3,5 h and in that time we saw a lot of important historical and cultural places in Pest. It was the best way to see the city and in the same time learn about its history. Anita and Barby were very good guides who answered on all of ours questions.

I live in Budapest since I was born and never thought that I'll take part on a guided tour in my city. But I wanted to give my husband a special birthday gift and payed him (and me) for segwaying in the city.
After a 20min orientation (we learned how to use the segway) we started to see the city center: along Andrassy street thorough Erzsébet and Deák squares to the Danube. We've seen than the Chain Bridge, Parliament and Basilica too. The tour took us 2 hours but the most fun was to be on the segway. Lot of tourists and local people asked us how did we get this vehicle and what is it called, how is it work. A guide came with us who answered to all these questions. And she told us stories about the different buildings too - that we didn't know before, though we both live in Budapest :)
I think it's fun to see the city on a segway and I would recommend it to everybody. It is easy to learn and easy to use - you only have to stand and sometimes make a curve :)

We took this tour on our fourth day in Budapest. It was very appealing, but we didn't know exactly what to expect -- would it be dangerous or difficult or just fun. It turned out to be a fun time. We took the 2 hour tour on the Pest side near the Opera and Parliament. They took between 20 minutes and a half hour to orient us to the Segways and then off we went. I would definitely recommend this tour. It is fun to do and more personal than a bus tour. We are both in our 60's and had no difficulty managing the Segways. Be careful of the posts on the eges of the sidewalk where you cross the streets. I fell off, but with no injury (except to my pride). A really different and fun activity!

I thought a Segway tour would be something a little fun and also give us some sense of the city layout on our first day.

Couldn't have been more right!

We arrived at the shop behind the Opera 10 minutes early - only to find the shop closed. Cue panic from me "But it says get here early!" I guess in cold February they aren't that busy and didn't need the extra time. The shop opened at 10 and in we went for a 20 minute lesson with our guide Bea.

I was worried at first that I would not manage it - it being standing on a platform and leaning backwards and forwards. After a bit I got it but still felt nervous – Bea assured us we would soon feel it was natural and be trying to go faster. Still, after practicing going over a bump to ready us for pavements we were off outside.

Luckily we had thought about the weather and had thick gloves and coats as it was pretty cold standing on the Segway. The thrill of it soon warmed us up though!

We zoomed all round with Bea giving us a really good tour and information – and despite the cold kept going for the full two hours!! And she was right – we did get the hang of it and did want to go faster!

This isn’t an in-depth city tour but for getting your bearings and having fun it was excellent.

We will definitely do a City Segway tour again (unless I can persuade my husband to let me buy one!)

Luckily we had thought about the

I had booked a caving tour in Budapest for 6 people well in advance of the tour date. I even revived a confirmation from victor that my trip had been confirmed. However, several days later I received an email from the company saying that the date I had chosen had actually been full and there is now no room for my group. They did offer another day as available and able to accommodate my group. When I responded saying that I was still interested in taking the alternative date, it was also fully booked! No priority was given to my previous reservation. I will be booking with a company that properly knows how to use their websites and not this one.

Thank you for getting back to us and sharing your experience! We would like to express our apologies that you could not participate on our Caving Tour. Unfortunately our tour got fully booked during the night you made the reservation. We have contacted you in less than 12 hours after making your reservation and we saved 6 places for you for the alternative dates. After sending a reminder, we only received a response 4 days later, on the day of the alternative date. Unfortunately we were not able to hold the places for you without any response. In these cases we provide full refund for our guests, which happened immediately after your notification. We do hope you still enjoyed your stay in Budapest.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening with a varied repertoire from an obviously accomplished group of musicians. The accoustics in the Duna Palace are superb, the atmosphere fun and lively and the inside of the palace exquisite. We booked this concert online prior to our visit but it's easy to buy tickets from the numerous sellers on the Budapest streets. At just over 30 euros per ticket, we felt this we very good value for money, especially compared to the 50 plus that we paid for a very disappointing hour-long shambles of a performance from the Duna String Orchestra in the Basilica two days earlier. For those who enjoy a typical "tourist concert", the Danube Symphony Orchestra with cimbalom show in the Duna Palace is a must ~ unlike the Duna String Orchestra's shocking performance at St. Stephen's where they rely on the beauty of the venue alone ~ don't waste your money on this one!

We were visiting from Canada, and an internet search resulted in finding the Segway Tour. The reservation over the internet worked without a hitch, and we actually got a refund without asking since the Forint dropped quite a bit lately. Customer service like that is not a common thing in Hungary.
The weather was very cold and somewhat wet. Just make sure you dress for it as you will be basically standing for two hours.
Our tourguide Andrew taught us the basics and within 15-20 minutes we were scooting around like pros.
The tour took us through some cool sites and travelling was straightforward on the segways. The guide was excellent and we learned a lot of interesting history. He was also very personable and his English together with his communication skills were excellent (another rarity in this corner of the world).
I would highly recommend the segway tour no matter your age. We covered a lot ground safely and speedily giving us more time to actually see the sites.

We booked this tour not knowing what to expect. It ended up being a highlight of our trip. Szolt was a SO informative, patient with questions as well as slower walkers, and made us feel very welcome.

You start the tour in the basement, which is set up like an average home in Budapest in the 1970s, while they were still well under communist control. This was absolutely brilliant! It gives you a candid picture of life in that place and time. Szolt shared a synopsis of the history of Hungary (as a nation and a people). Then, he showed us actual school workbook from an elementary school child, dating back to the communist era. He even showed us some communist-era personal items belonging to his family.

Next, we hit the streets. We learned all about uprisings and changes of govtt, explanations of several monuments, which are tied to the Hungarian political struggles, and various communist-era installations. This is the bulk of the tour, and is packed with information. We recommend starting your Budapest visit with this tour, as it gives you an excellent framework of this beautiful city.

After a lengthy and eye-opening tour, Szolt gave us a recommendation for a restaurant, which was out of this world, too!

Thank you, Szolt. You're the best!
